RIM releases OS 7.0.0.261 for Rogers, and it seems this OS has Japanese input capability:

BlackBerry Handheld Software v7.0.0.1346 (All Languages)

    Package Version: 7.0.0.1346
    Consisting of:
    Applications: 7.0.0.261
    Software Platform: 5.0.0.464
    File name: 9900jAllLang_PBr7.0.0_rel1346_PL5.0.0.464_A7.0.0.2 61_Rogers_Wireless_Inc.exe
    File size: 231.22MB
Does Anybody try this yet? If so, how about Japanese input? Is it working?

    Thanks in advance.

Do they have BIS in Japan?

So far on my OS installs, I've seen an option for Japanese font and characters, but not input. I may try importing the cod files from a separate OS. Mendou desuyo.

Oooh! I am definitely downloading the new OS when I get home!
I'm currently running the same version, but in terms of support and input straight out of the box, there's none. Here's hoping there is input support from Rogers!

(How do you import 'cod' files into the OS for input support?)

    Atarashii OS hoshii desuyo!

Quite a few... most people use iPhone or Android smartphone.

Do they have BIS in Japan?
Yes, NTT docomo serves BIS/BES service. Speaking about handset, 9000, 9700, 9300, 9780 is now on sale. Hope to see 9900 also from docomo.

It is said that not only cod files but also radio file are used for Japanese input. Installing whole OS (not cod files only) would be ok.

Oooh! I am definitely downloading the new OS when I get home!
Wow. Do have a 9900 already? sweet! Could you please install this OS?

Ok, still no challengers... anyone try Rogers official OS7 to 9900 and see if Japanese input is working or not ?
All Japanese BB fans are eager to know; if Japanese input is working many fans will rush into web stores :-)

I'll probably have some time to install that when I get home today. As far as I remember, that OS did not have Japanese input. I'm sure there's a way to import it from another OS. I'm just at work right now, so I'll see if I can find out at home as well.

Thank you Masahiro, let me know how it goes.

BTW, you can simply install the Japanese-capable (hopefully :-) OS to existing handset, and that is the only way to do that. Importing .cod files cannot work since the Japanese dictionary file is NOT in any .cod files but radio file that would be hard to change without installing whole OS.

I have a Telus 9900 and we don't have japanese input on ours :-(

I was able to install an East Asia version of OS 6 on my wife's 9800 and the Japanese input works very well.

Yeah, you're right. I was looking at the COD file I installed on a previous non-Japanese capable OS for my Torch and it excluded input support. I'm installing .261 right now.

Ok, maybe you've installed newer one (.296 or .317), right? Sorry for bothering to back revision.

Hope to hear a good news!

I had .317 installed, but I want to give .261 a whirl again. I hear good things about the battery life.

Hi! Sorry, I haven't actually gone to download it and nor does my work computer have support for nihongo.

But good to know that the Rogers BB OS7 .261 has support! I've been dying without it since the 9700, and the 9800 did NOT have any support for input!

    (You've been thanked btw =3)

Uuh, looks like I broke something... Japanese has disappeared from my phone completely. The hiragana shows up as black squares. Looks like I have to reinstall it. I hope it's not some recurring issue.

I don't try yet (since I don't have a 9800), but ATT's OS 6.0.0.600 would work. Download 'jAllLang' version from the RIM's site as usual.

No it didn't. I just had to reinstall the CODs. I have no idea how they disappeared from my phone, but it wasn't half as bad as reinstalling the entire OS.

Did you do something to your 9900 after installing Rogers .261, or Japanese input was broken without anything? If latter, Japanese input might be broken again... hmm.

Nope. I just installed the files, and switched to Japanese input by pressing ALT + enter.

How can I download the Japanese input, and how do I switch between keyboards?
    Thanks!

The .261 (Rogers) OS has the input files you need. No other leaked OS I've tried has them, at least for the time being. All you need to do once you install the OS is to press ALT + Enter to bring up a window to switch between input languages.
