    Hi All,

I am planning to get a new unlocked BB Bold 9900 from USA through my friend. Currently it is priced close to $100 in Amazon.com. Please let me know if the device will work fine in India.I need to know about the GSM carrier compatibility, BIS etc. Do i need to get a new internet plan for 9900. I already have a postpaid 3G connection for my Z10.

Please let me know if i need to consider any other factor as well.

    Thank you

The internet plan that you have for your Z10 will not work on the 9900. 9900 uses BIS while the BlackBerry 10 phones don't use BIS. They use normal 2G/3G plans so yes you will have to get a different internet plan. Which carrier are you on? Vodafone?

Isn't the cost of BIS offset by using less data ( compression ) ?

Many users have found going from BBOS to BB10 , a big increase in data consumption.

Yeah but it's like paying 400 rupees for bis data vs 125 for regular data. And I think the amount of data is same for both.

Normal data isn't that expensive in India so the data compression doesn't really help.

Just make sure that the phone is unlocked. This means you can use your native carrier SIM card. If it is locked to a US carrier like AT&T, then the phone will be useless until you pay an extra fee to have the phone unlocked so you can use it.

Hi. It makes sense to switch to a BB OS 7 device & opt for BIS than to use an OS 10 device with a normal 2G / 3G data plan. BIS will offer you unlimited data usage for a fixed price. However, the 3G data plan will limit your data transfer - that means for the same amount (or higher) spent on an unlimited BIS plan you will have limited data exposure on 3G data plan.
I've experienced this first hand having switched over from a 9220 Curve to a Q10.
In your place I would go through with the changeover.
