Does it point you in the direction your facing like with android/iphones?
I've actually found it to be more accurate than google maps in my area. Very useful so far!
So what exactly has RIM done with their purchase of DASH Navigation that they did in June 2009? Did they actually take the technology and mapping and put it to use? I would have expected it to be part of the newer BB's by now this way users would have the benefit of collaborative real time traffic based on their larger user install base.
Man I so disappointed. Finally got my hands on a 9900 from telus. Upgrade from the 9780. Before that I had the Desire HD, before that the iPhone4.
now... I switched because I use my phone for work mostly, and wanted to get away from spending time playing games and buying apps. Got the 9780 and realized quickly how much I missed the large display, graphics and apps (both iOS and android) tonight a friend asked me to send him a pin on a location where we will be launching my boat tomorrow morning. I don't have the address but I remember visually where it is. For some reason I cannot get ant satellite view in BB maps, google maps nor bing maps. They all forward me directly to the mobile site every time. Don't want to tote a playbook around and my iPad is too big.
I looked in app world and they don't even have any maps for the 9900! Or even any interesting apps at all to be honest. Am I the only one with these feelings?
You are not alone is being disappointed that apps are flooding in, but developers have to update their apps. I am not sure why or how long it takes but given the fact that RIM has different devices with different resolutions with and without keyboards and keyboard devices with touch screens its no wonder devs may be delayed in getting things out. But seriously if you are trying to sell your apps and the new OS will not be backwards compatible to older devices I would think devs would want to get moving so they can capture then new device market . . . or not.
You can download Google Maps from their mobile site. Just google for google maps app and you should be able to download the app for your device OTA.

I use BB Maps with Wikitude and works very well. I have yet to use Google Maps yet, but I'll get around to it one day. The compass requires some moderate calibration as it shows direction/heading, and hosts a number of interactions, though I suspect it's more Wikitude than maps. So far I see a difference with it on my 9900 and when I used it on my 9780.
