Is the screen on the 9900/9930 glass or plastic.
I thought it was the same glass like on the PlayBook, but I see some people calling it plastic

Yeah, but my PlayBook screen sounds plasticy when I tap on it. I don't think that's a good way to tell.

Why is it such a mystery? I'm surprised there is no official word on the screen material.

Its glass. If it was plastic mine would be very scratched by now!

I tapped it with my finger, and it feels like 100% plastic, no way it's glass

9900 is definitely glass..if not..the screen will be so rough and unattractive after a few weeks (especially for those that use the touchscreen often)

    So....
    Nobody has a definitive answer?
Come on! This is the biggest BlackBerry site in the world and nobody has official word on weather or not the screen is glass or plastic?

Many people have "definitive" answers, they just happen to be conflicting

I played with one at Sprint and based on the sounds from a finger tap, I'd wager anything it's glass.. the one I tapped sounds just like a window, no way it's plastic...

oh, and that was before I found this, for the "proof":
"RIM tells us the display is made of "extra hardened glass," so there's no plastic here."

from our very own but we were probly too excited reading about the device to remember this little detail, lol... BlackBerry Bold 9900 Review | CrackBerry.com

see, we're the biggest BlackBerry site in the world for a reason! maybe too big if it took this long to find it on our own site, jk lol...

    Yeah, I just re-read Kevin's 9900 review.
I guess I was way too excited the first time I read it.
It would still be nice to know more about it. If not Corning Gorilla Glass, who is it made by? Does it have a commercial name?

    IMO it's glass.

Never saw a scratch on my caseless 9530 after a year or 9550 after 2 years. My 9930 feels the same. I know it's only been 2 weeks but it hasn't even seen a LIGHT scratch since I got it and it's also caseless.

Even if it's plastic, it seems to be made of a great synthetic material that allows it to be virtually scratchless. At least so far... but glass or plastic, that's all that matters to me. I want to retain a like new screen for the whole duration of my ownership.

Actually, there is a difference. If you tap the back of a plastic screen, you hear more of an echo. Glass tap is absorbed and doesn't sound as clear, more muffled.
