- Actually, there is. You will have to remap the convenience key during the set-up process, but after that is complete, go into "options" on Vlingo, and change "voice key behavior" to "only on Vlingo home". Save the changes, then exit Vlingo and from BB home screen, go to "options", then "device", then set "convenience key" up to do whatever you want. I kept my convenience key set to open messages, yet Vlingo works fine once I launch it. I did notice that if you have the convenience key set for camera that once you launch Vlingo and speak your command, the camera will still launch while Vlingo is thinking, but on the 9930,Vlingo resumes smoothly once it is through thinking.
However, when I tried to set up my grandmother's new 9350 this way, the Curve would switch from Vlingo immediately over to the camera and there is no Vlingo to be seen. I would imagine the 9900 works the same as 9930 here, but there is apparent device variability, even with the same OS. Hope this helps.
In playing around with it, I figured out a workaround so I can still use the convenience key for the camera shutter button. I have the convenience key set to "Do Nothing", then use it to call Vlingo, telling it to Start Camera. Then, I can take pictures all I want... <grin>11-08-11 10:25 AMLike 0 -
Posted from my CrackBerry at wapforums.crackberry.com11-08-11 12:26 PMLike 0 - love the suggestions to use Vlingo as the solution to 'losing' the convenience key...but they don't really address the scenario where you're in an environment and you can't just 'speak' your commands, lol...
I'm definitely going to look into the apps that allow me to re-assign the media keys, though...that's brilliant!11-08-11 01:07 PMLike 0 - love the suggestions to use Vlingo as the solution to 'losing' the convenience key...but they don't really address the scenario where you're in an environment and you can't just 'speak' your commands, lol...

The only answer I have received from support is to do a battery pull. Any one have any ideas?11-10-11 07:33 PMLike 0
- I have one problem that is stopping me from getting the most out of vlingo. The contact book doesn't seem to add everyone that I have on my phone. I thought that I might not have copied everything from my sim card but I have but it only seems to recognoze numbers I have added recently and directly into my phone, not copied over from my sim. Anyone know how can I fix this, its really a shame when I can only say text or call 5 or so people.
Posted from my CrackBerry at wapforums.crackberry.com11-10-11 08:06 PMLike 0 - I am having a 100% increase in battery drain with vlingo installed. This is without using it at all. I find the app handy but I hope the battery issues can be solved. I've tried all settings variations in the app with no change. Any ideas?
Posted from my CrackBerry at wapforums.crackberry.com11-10-11 08:33 PMLike 0 - I'm having a problem with Vlingo on my 9900; the app seems to not want to detect my convenience key. When its doing its setup and asking to press the convenience key (after setting it to Do Nothing) it doesn't do anything; after holding it down and pressing it, and trying for 30 seconds it'll pass onto the next setup stage, which is hold down the key and speak into the phone, but holding down the key does nothing. When I skip setup and am at the Home screen to try it, I hold down the key and maybe once in a while a Vlingo popup will come up to say something and go away a second or two later.
Any suggestions? This was happening on the .440 release, I just upgraded to .474 and still have the same issue.
Anyone have any suggestions???11-10-11 11:52 PMLike 0 - If vlingo app is opening when you press the convinience key instead of just a listening box, you need to program your convinience key to "do nothing" it will then magically work. I found the fix using google. It worked for me.
To clarify, don't select vlingo for the convenience key, select do nothing. Selecting vlingo will open the app instead of the proper listening box.

- I can't get this to work on my 9930. Everything I say into it results in "I didn't catch that. Please try again." Everything. I don't have an accent and I am speaking clearly. Sometimes it times out because of the connection, but my network signal is strong. Also, I do not see some of the menu options that you guys are talking about. It seems to be set up correctly. I press and hold my convenience key, it says it's listening, I speak into the phone clearly, then let go of the convenience key. What am I doing wrong?11-13-11 08:08 PMLike 0
