Does clearing the event log really help anything to boost performance?

I have seen very dramatic differences in clearing the log on older slower devices that have constrained memory. I had a Tour that it really helped on, after say running a month and clearing it out. Same thing on my wife's Curve 3G.

But on my 9930, not so much. I think the hardware is so much faster now and the memory space so much better that it does not help a lot. Not if your device has some free memory anyway.

Southlander is correct. On older devices with very limted app memory, such as 64mb, it was sometimes necessary and even recommended. On a BlackBerry with 768mb, the space the event log uses is negligible. In the end, clearing the event log is up to the user.

The Event Log is a 400KB file, so it makes virtually no difference to performance by clearing it on a 9900/9930... and besides, it will be full again before you know it

You can only shrink out the Event Log Viewer.

The file itself will still be there in the background logging every event... you just won't be able to view it
