I saw a local deal which I can buy a sprint bold 9930 for 300. I'm wondering if it is shipps unlocked or not. Am planning to use it on tmobile with EDGE. I'm going to sell my htc sensation for 350 if I can get the deal by the end of the day.
It's a 50/50 chance that it is unlocked. We had many clients order an unlock code as theirs did not come unlocked. To check to see if it is unlocked, go to:
Options-Device-Advanced-Sim card - Hold down ALT and type mepd .. Make sure there is a sim card inside and it should say disabled beside network.

So if it says disabled, does it mean unlocked or locked?
Be very carefull with Sprint. Crackberry and I are finding it VERY difficult to buy a phone not attached to a contract. I won a 9930 from Crackberry. They (Crackberry team) tried several times just to go and buy a 9930 off contract. Sprint wouldn't do it. I tried as well and no luck. If you don't have Sprint contract they will not sell you the phone. Be very carefull. You don't want to get stuck with a phone that doesn't work.
Ok, that's what I initially thought, but got confused with some of the posts. Thanks for clearing everything up, I was almost 99% positive that the Sprint 9930 ships locked. Also, Alt MEPD didn't work on my 9930, but Shift MEPD did.
I called Sprint and telling them that I am traveling international. They told me that all Sprint devices are unlocked. Are they lying to me? As my network is "active."
In the SIM Card area, I typed mepd (without alt or shift) and it is indicating that the SIM Card is unlocked (all services are disabled). If I am travelling to the UK next week, do I simply need to pick up a SIM card while I am there, turn of the wireless, insert the SIM Card and turn on wireless after switching to the GSM Netowrk? Is that it?
When you buy a SIM card, do you get a phone number with it? I have never, ever had a phone with GSM capability, since I have been with Spring forever. I assume that I can buy a pay as you go or prepaid SIM card...
I am on a SWAC account, so it makes sense that yours came unlocked as well. Interesting.
Guess I'll stop at Vodaphone (or similar) when I arrive and play around. Does anyone know if it is possible to use a UK SIM card to connect to my BES Server?
