If it will be 4G, I'd rather have it as HSPA+ since I think they can sustain battery life with an HSPA+ antenna as LTE one's haven't been optimized for battery life yet from what I heard and I have no idea about WiMAX and battery life.
All in all, if it will keep battery life on par with other BlackBerries then there will be 4G but don't count on it happening with this phone.
What is your basis for comparing battery life of LTE when its not even out yet??
I've heard that GSM berries get better battery life than CDMA berries (though I don't know this first hand)...but I thought LTE was sort of a hybrid GSM/CDMA mix. Am I wrong on this?
Also, I thought AT&T and T-Mobile were moving towards LTE with their 4g.
We've seen the HTC Thunderbolt, the first LTE-enabled device, been delayed due to battery life being extremely sub-par battery life lasting only 2-3 hours on a full charge.
Current rumor has Verizon launching LTE with a $30 unlimited data plan -> HTC ThunderBolt may launch on March 3rd or 4th; unlimited 4G LTE data for $29.99 | BGR
We will see once they launch with a handset.
Dakota won't be LTE. AT&T is rolling out LTE testing this summer. T-Mobile also doesn't have LTE infrastructure out yet. I am truly hoping for HSPA+. Signing another contract locking into 7.2mbps would be irritating.
HTC phones all get horrible battery life. Look at the Aria, Evo, Incredible. Thats a phone manufacturer issue and not a carrier issue.
GSM anything gets better battery life than CDMA. Especially when signal reception is high of course.

Well i'm sure Sprint will have this device they keep telling me they have a new blackberry that has a smaller touch screen with a full qwerty keyboard (has to be the montanta/dakota) coming this year. I would hope it would be on their 4G network
That's weird. Cuz its not smaller in anyways, unless you're talking about the touch curve that was rumured

The Dakota is a GSM device while the Montana is the CDMA version of the same device. Both have pretty much the same form factor as the older Bold 9000. The Monaco, will be the Storm 3. The specs for the Montana are listed below:

It should be. It would make sense to have a BlackBerry loaded with many features only to be limited to 3g. You don't want to stay behind iphone and Android so it should have 4g. I just hope it comes to Sprint,

Would it be a deal breaker for anyone if it is only a 3g device? I know that 4g is still in the makings and is not an absolute necessity now, however keep in mind that most people will be locking into a two year contract with this phone. I'm debating on whether to jump ship if this phone is not 4g, although I find it hard to imagine myself with anything but a berry.
Rim is not releasing any 4G phones this year, I dont think Apple will either, 4G is neither efficient nor nationwide as of yet

Well, if that's got a Rev. A radio, it doesn't look like it'll have a Wiimax of LTE radio. I hope that it is 4G. That would be Spectacular. But I'm going to be Frank, I'm not going to be deterred by a lack of 4G.
After 2 years with the same Tour, I'm ready for a new phone.

No 4G, it would be too big and battery life too low.
But honestly, I dont think 4G is all that amazing. Maybe its just me, because I am in a fast city already when it comes to my strong 3G speeds. Other than streaming video, 4G has nothing really to offer me. And with only 200Mb or 500 or whatever limit I have, 4G would only get me over my limit faster.
And, even with fast 3G speeds, Rims proxy slows down your 'true' speeds
RIM's making the right call by waiting at least one more year before releasing LTE handsets. I think it's at least a good bet that Sprint will switch from WiMax to LTE. AT&T isn't ready with their LTE network yet(hence their HSPA+ network upgrade) And even Verizon is struggling to stay on schedule with the their LTE network expansion and initial handset.(HTC Thunderbolt :( )
What does battery life and size of the phone have to do with being 4G??
Dakota specs support CDMA. Do your research.

I'm glad you asked, everything.
The Bold 9000 was big, and part of the reason the 9700 had a better battery life was due to it have a smaller screen and an improved 3G radio stack.
Whenever you jump in radios, think of them like engines, they use more power and take up more space, until technology can come around and make them more compact and efficient
Think of the 8900 as a V4 Honda Accord
9000 as the V6 version
And, Im not sure if they make a V8, but if they did, it would be the 9900 (lets say its using 4G even though its not)
The car with the V8 engine will use more power, simply because...it HAS to. That is why your old regular phones lasted very long. Remember how they could be on for 17 days before you needed to charge them? Or if you turn off your 3G radio and just use 2G or wifi, your battery will last longer?
Thats the equivalent of being able to have a V8 engine, but only use 4 cylinders, and having the other 4 kick in when needed.
So, due to V8 engines being very new (yes the shift, evo, and others have 4G radio...but ask around what type of battery life they get) engineers have yet to find a way to make those 'cars' efficient enough. I don't even think apple will release a 4G phone until next year. It just consumes more energy.
Then, on a network state of mind. 4G isn't stable yet, so you will lose 4G signal, don't fight it, its going to happen. AT&T (Seems to be BB's main brand in America for releasing phones that aren't storm/style) as well as everyone else, has yet to install a strong 4G network and are building up their 3G network right now, so when you do fall off of 4G (which you will, a lot) you are still at a comparable speed
