Hi guys, I've got potentially a stupid question to ask but I figured where better to ask said question than on the internet, where stupidity is anonymous-ish.

So I'm on an AT&T contract in the US (currently have a 9800) but since my family lives in Canada, I figured I could get the new Bold a month earlier if they just bought it for me.

Thing is, I don't know what carrier they should buy the phone from / what model to buy to take advantage of AT&Ts 3G (or HSPA+, whatever that is).

My gut tells me a Rogers 9900 would be the right one - can anyone clarify this for me? Or would any 9900 do it (i.e. buying from Best Buy, Bell, etc)? Thanks!

Not sure if this will help, but when I travelled from Ontario to Los Angeles with my Bold 9780 on Telus, I automatically tapped into the AT&T network when I was there. So, I guess Telus feeds off of the AT&T network (at least in L.A)

I believe unlocked Telus and Rogers gsm 9900s will work with ATT

I'm using a Telus 9780 unlocked on the ATT network

You will get FULL 3G with a Rogers, Telus or Bell. I use Rogers phones on AT&T and they work perfectly!

Not sure if they have it yet, but Wind Mobile is the one to avoid they use the same frequencies as TMobile.

Rogers used to be part of att if I'm not mistaken? Or something along those lines. So they would work interchangeably.

Not Rogers -- Bell Canada used to be an affiliate of the old AT&T up until about the mid-1950s. The old AT&T's network of affiliates/regional operating companies was called the Bell System. Of course, what is now AT&T used to be Southwestern Bell, one of those old, divested regional operating companies, which bought Bell South/Cingular, which itself had just bought AT&T Wireless, the former parent company's wireless division. But I don't believe those old affiliations have anything to do with network compatibility.

Is there a reason you would not get 4g?

I wish I was still stationed up at North Dakota

I would take a trip this weekend into Canada and score me a 9900. Stuck in Alabama now, the only thing I can score is crack or herpes. Who will unlock the 9900 for a decent price?
