If you were to buy a brand new, factory sealed blackberry from ebay.....what happens if in a few months, you have a problem with it? Can you call Verizon and have them send you a replacement or are you SOL because you didn't buy it through them?

Latter unless you can obtain a proof of purchase from seller I'd say.

Yeah with the amount of "bricked" stories floating around that's just scary. I thought of that too but decided to just sell myself into a contract.

Actually this is not good either. Even if you obtain a proof of purchase from the seller, the RIM agreement to the user clearly state that the warranty is NOT transferable and ONLY applicable to the original buyer. Check this out: http://www.blackberry.com/legal/warranty/handheld.shtml

So if you buy it from someone, you are out of luck when it breaks. If you buy it from a store, you have a warranty.

If you are on Sprint and have tep you can still take it in. If necessary they will replace it.

Yip, I bought my bold from amazon. It started giving problems about 5 weeks after I got it. I had no warranty, RIM told me they could not help. Ended up paying to fix it. Something was wrong with the trackpad.
My advice is DON'T purchase this unless you have a warranty.

As an option, you can buy a warranty through SquareTrade and they have a 35% off sale this weekend.

I have purchased and sold many devices off eBay and never had any issues, but thats just for me. You could buy a brand new device and it could be a dud.
