I already had a BB Bold 9900 in my hands in a Vodafone shop in Oxford street.

But as I am from abroad (only with a foreign Vodafone contract) I have some problems.

I would like the "phone" only and was told a price of 450 �. But my account from abroad is not "upgradeable"

Would anyone here in the forum would be willing to help... or sell a Bold 9900

Verizon is 9930 and is for CDMA networks, my country only has GSM networks. I need a 9900.

Dude, the verizon 9930 is a world phone meaning that if it is unlocked you can use its GSM bands by poping in a sim card. The following GSM bands are supported:

GSM: 850, 900, 1800, 1900.
UMTS: 900, 2100

Most european countries use the 2100 band for the 3G GSM service so like i said, i dont think you'll have to worry about getting 2G only or EDGE.

It will kinda work but not fully. You see, at&t uses 1900 and 850 for its 3G bands and the verizon 9930 does not support these. This means one can only get EDGE. Verizon wants its phones to be used in their network only in the US so there's no chance we'll see a change in how they request their world phones.

You do know not all 9900 are made equal right? Some support bands 1,2,5,6 and some others support bands 1,4,8.

Look at the about screen in the settings on your bberry and then you'll know. Look for the bit that says 3G bands.

Carries need some time for branding and locking phones. because of this, first devices available are most often unlocked and have no branding (software)! If you buy an unlocked 9900 without software branding (startscreen doesnt show at&t, rogers, etc.) you are save and can use it on any gsm carrier.

To make it more clear:

Unlocked and unbranded 9900 works on every GSM provider (all european carriers are gsm)
Unlocked and branded 9900 will work in most cases, but you may not be able to use all bands
Locked and branded 9900 will work for only one carrier
9930 will also work, but only on lower bands with smaller bandwith!

Blackberries are easy to unlock, but hard to unbrand!
