I want to change my 9780, I want to ask if it is better to me to stick with my 9780, buy 9900 or buy another OS7 device ?
Go for it...
I couldn't imagine anything else but my 9930.
Dude u would be sorry if you didn't. Forget about all the competitors, the 9900 is an awesome phone. Just make sure you have a flawless unit before continuing.. Good luck
9900 all the way, you won't regret it. best device i've owned to date.
An awesome phone. Brilliant keyboard associated with touchscreen and trackpad. How could it be better? And it has the BlackBerry logo on it.
A pleasure to use everyday.
Thanks for the advice, I might get a 9900 next week, another question : black or white :P?
And how to know if a have a good unit?
I'd say get the White one, in my experience (and because it was released later than the black one) it seems to be the smoother of the 2.
This is a good question, I'd also like to know the answer :)
i'm in a similar situation. I really want to use my upgrade to get the bold 9930 but my concern is the dying bolds. I'm scared the bold is going to brick... is this a major problem or should I still get it?
I like the white one, but does it get dirty like 9780 ?
ensure that your phone doesn't constantly feel hot and also, monitor the discharge rate
you probably have a faulty phone if you have the above symptoms. and the 10% discharge rate.
Blackbeauty.... no chance of getting dirty...
I think white goes well with a big hat, wide lapels and a big golden chain.....Bell bottoms won't hurt....:D
I bought mine knowing all the issues, and have no regrets. I seem to have one that is "reliable"......errr um knock on wood!! But seriously if you do the OS upgrades you'll be fine.
I would however agree about the comment about the white ones, may be more reliable being released later??
Going to have to agree with the consensus. This is the best blackberry I've had to date. Think I'm keeping this for a while.
I upgraded from a 9780 too and I miss the battery life, the great camera, watching youtube videos and also how reliable my phone was. With this one,it gets really hot, I'm afraid to install apps, it often drops calls and freezes sometimes.
I do love the keyboard, the size of the phone itself, how responsive the touchscreen is, the great, bright resolution, etc. Anyway, maybe you should get a White one! Do some research on people who have gotten the white one. Hopefully it is, in fact, better!
I think 2 things that 9780 won over 9900 1. macro short of camera and 2.battery life ,other than that 9900 is better in every ways, 9900 is a monster ,luv it :P
If you're concerned about the phone, hang onto the receipt, keep the box, etc, and just keep an eye on things. RIM warranty is at least one year from what I understand, so that should cover you for awhile. Also, with a new device, I usually get the insurance package, at least for the first couple of months until I feel more comfortable with the device. Once I do, I usually drop the insurance.
Besides all that, just make sure to do regular backups of the device and consider setting up BB Protect on the phone. I'm on verizon and we have backup assistant, which backs up my contact list as well.
Finally, there are some threads/posts on here as to what to look for in a new device. Use the search function, you'll get great results.
Good luck, you'll love this phone!
Go check out 9790 first, the design is similar to 9780 and it runs OS7 + plus it has auto focus camera.
If you type a lot then go with 9900.
Sent from my BlackBerry 9900
I love it but the battery life is driving me nuts. Almost went back to the 9780 but gave it up to a coworker. That and the fixed focus camera IMO are the two biggest pain points on this thing. That being said, amazing screen, keyboard and speed.
Might want to wait for the first software update that hopefully enhances the battery life a bit.
Well the software updates are here and work quite well. I believe the 7.0.0.585 is the most stable and official, and battery life is much better IMO.
If your like me and like to tinker, I went with 7.1.0.74, its a little buggy apparently, nothing so far for me, and battery life seems even better that with .585, IMO!!!
Battery life was an issue for me at the beginning and it started improving after a couple of weeks. It has improved also with upgrades. I am on .540 now. I tried .585 but found that the battery behaved less well.
Overall, an amazing phone. I love it everyday.
bought my 9900 first day out and i am loving it with no regrets
loving my 9900 the only glitch is battery life
If you like....
1. BB keyboard, it's the best of all times...No smart phone can every compete 9900/9300 keyboard
2. Touch screen really gives more freedom to perform same tasks as non touch does.
3. It's build quality and size is perfect, feels very good when hold it.
4. In/ Out call quality is better than 9780.
...
Cons:
1. Very poor battery life (when compared to 9780), average when compared with other smartphones.
2. Only one convenience key
3. In some 9900/9300 bricking issues.
4. Camera is not auto focus (if you use camera regularly, poor compared to 9780)
5. No stable/ Mature OS available yet.(this a major issue).
------
Decision:
I purchased it.. Now waiting for stable/ mature OS which bring better battery life and stability to device.
May be you should wait for more 2/3 months till then fresh stocks will come out with solved hardware issues..
The 9900 has a better processor/chipset and better keyboard than its newest Bold cousin. Test drive one for yourself. I turn mine off to charge every night. I have the stock AT&T OS and have had it since November 10th with no bricking issues. At the end of the day, you are the only one that can determine if it is right for you.
