I'm currently an iPhone 4 user on AT&T. I typically buy a new phone every year, but the 4S isn't a worthy upgrade for me, so I'm keeping my iPhone 4 and going to buy a blackberry off contract so I can have the best of both worlds. I was looking at the phones off contract prices at my place of employment that shall remain nameless. I get a discount on off contract blackberries. I can get an unlocked 9700 for 282 USD. This is a good price, but I also kind of want to wait for the AT&T 9900. I looked up the 9930 off contract price and with my discount i get it for 532 USD so I'm assuming the pricing will be similar.

Is the 9700 still a good phone? or is the 9900 and OS 7 worth the wait and extra 250 dollars?

Short answer, yes and yes. The 9700 is still darn good, but the 9900 is far superior in every respect. Well worth the additional expense, though you could probably get a Rogers 9900 for less than what it will be from at&t, whenever they release it.

9700 is probably one of my favorite phones. The 9900 is far superior but has way worse battery life and a worse camera for point and shoot IMO.

I'd go with the 9700 for a core berry(email, bbm, text, apps and phone calls) but if its web browsing your looking for and faster apps then the 9900 is your man.

You can find 9900 for cheaper on Craigslist and eBay

the 9700 started it.. but the 9900 just perfect it

I say get the 9900.. but if you plan on using it on a GSM carrier like att get the rogers or telus or bell one so you can get 3G.

and other 9900s (t-mobile, vodafone etc) won't get 3G on att. and don't buy a 9930 because that will only get EDGE and its always hard to get things fully functional on a CDMA device for a GSM device
