What would I need to be able to use my BB 9900 as a universal remote? I've been looking at the Harmony Smart control device, at �69.99. This is basically an IR receiver and a basic remote control for the money. The intention is that you download an app to your smartphone and use that as the remote, just picking up the supplied remote when the phone is not available. As ever of course, Blackberry is not supported. I have a Playbook and I believe I can sideload the android app to that, but I was just wondering if anyone has any receiver/app recommendations for the Bold that I can look at instead?

I want to control an AV receiver, WDTV, TV, DVD player, etc. preferably activity based like the (broken) Harmony One I am seeking to replace.

I didn't think the Bold was able to function as a remote? I am wondering if the BB10 phones can even do that with an Android app??

It's not a matter of app functionality, it's a hardware thing. The phone needs to have an IR sensor in order to work as remote, or unless the device you're trying to use can connect with apps on your phone, and that app us available for your phone.
