For an updated version of this list, see this page. The posts below are out of date and cannot be updated.

Keep replying here (there's a reply link at the top of that page that sends you back here too).

The list depends on reports from the community. You report on an app's status, and I will add it to the appropriate list.

    Posting Guidelines
    • If the app is in BlackBerry World, only the name is required.
    • If the app is from an OTA (Over-the-Air) source, provide the name, version number, and a link to the site where you found it.
    • Provide any special instructions required to get an app to work.
    • If it's not obvious what the app does, it would help to explain its purpose (thanks for this idea, Michniks).

BBW = Available from BlackBerry World

OTA = Available from a third-party website. All the regular cautions about downloading apps from unknown sources apply. If you make use of OTA apps, remember that you are choosing to take the risk.

Remember that some apps, like streaming music services, will only be available in certain regions.

Make sure to let me know whether Facebook Messenger works. I set up a test account to make sure the Facebook app works, but I have no friends hahaha.

I did try the FB Messenger app about 5 months ago and it worked for 1 minute then kept crashing/jamming, I cannot recall which. But I had major issues even figuring out HOW to send a message and then later realized it was some simple thing, but it is far from obvious at first.

I just use the FB inbox from the FB app. (notif's don't always work for this also, unless you are "online")

Thanks. I'll leave it unreported for now. If someone knows how to get it working without crashing, they can submit the instructions. If anyone else has had trouble with it, let me know. If I get a couple of death reports, I'll put it in the RIP file with poor Kik.

UC Browser (BBW) works fine for me, not for images, but v smooth and fast for text. I use it when the native browser is too slow or doesn't load, which depends on the web page (I don't like Opera much).
The native Social Feeds works well for RSS. I once deleted it and couldn't find it back in BBW. Reinstalled it through the BlackBerry Desktop Software.

I really don't know. It might not hurt, if it was scan on demand (to be light on resources) and someone maintained the definitions. I've never looked into it. I have installed a LOT of OTA software over the years, and have never noticed any operational problems.

"Permissions" are your friend. Otherwise, there have been some apps calling themselves "anti-virus" but I'm not aware of any third party, or BB, validation of efficacy. Fwiw, I, myself, have never heard of an authoritatively verified virus on BB. Not that I necessarily would hear about it tho. Unless we're talking about ANYthing Google... Lol.

    BlackBerry Navigator https://appworld.blackberry.com/webs...countrycode=GB
for those in the UK*, looking for voice guided turn-by-turn navigation, this uses TomTom road maps and in my experience works very well - indeed I much prefer it for navigation over the BB Maps app on my Q10

*I'm not sure whether it works elsewhere in the world

    Endomondo Sports Tracker PRO v8.6.4
I purchased this app a while back and it's my favoured sports tracker on the 9900, which I regularly use to map my cycle rides (and long dog walks). The paid for PRO app had improved battery management (very low power consumption) and unlike newer versions of Endomondo apps (e.g. Android) doesn't require a subscription.
Unfortunately, it looks as though it has recently been removed from BB World and Endomondo are phasing out support for the BlackBerry OS app

There is a version avialble at BlackBerryRC.com, and perhaps on other BB app repositories, which may work but I don't know whether it will be possible to activate and link it with an Endomondo account

The comments on the Endomondo site show that there are more than a few legacy users out there!

Given the status, I'll put it in the "might work" category. Then, if anyone reports that they can still create an account, I'll move it. Likewise, if it dies, let me know...

I never bothered, but I did turn on Encryption for the password protection not too long ago.

I have a feeling all those anti-virus apps in App World probably weren't updated in 3 years anyway....
