i'm not sure of that, but a 9900 without BIS or BES is just useless..
edit: why do actually want a blackberry without BIS/BES? just curious.
Blackberry is a great device. Keyboard is just amazing.
I used 9000 without BIS and now using 9900 without it.
Gmail for email and Beejive for chatting.
BIS costs 18USD per month for 50MB of data, no unlimited option.
BIS in China is very slow and none of my friends are using BBM.
Why do I need BIS? It's useless...

Coming to a Blackberry from Palm, I didn't get this as well. I never open the BBM app. SMS is more universal.

Logicmail gets my IMAP accounts just fine. I have BIS and realize that my data connection
sometimes proxies through it, but application-wise, I could just default to the Sprint APN.

People say that a Blackberry is useless without BES or BIS because of a chat app and push email??? I don't buy it.

I wouldn't go so far as to say BIS is useless, but I wouldn't also say that a BB is useless without BIS. There is a good point in between.

I disagreed saying bb is useless without bis or bes. People here in china many of us use apn to access apps and standalone email client. It functions as good as any smartphone without bis. If you count keyboard it is on top of the game.
