Can someone please tell me the difference between these two models with respect to the Frequencies/Systems they are compatible with?

    RDY70UW is not a 9900, it's a CDMA 9930.

    RDE71UW, RDE72UW, RDV71UW, RDV72UW, RDY71UW & RDY72UW are the 6 different 9900 models available.

    Among them the following 4 have AT&T 3G Bands (1, 2, 5 & 6), namely 800/850/1900/2100:
    RDE71UW, RDE72UW, RDY71UW & RDY72UW.

    The following 2 have T-Mobile US 3G Bands (1, 4 & 8) namely 900/1700/2100:
    RDV71UW & RDV72UW.

OK, thanks Phill. I think maybe the guy I asked in the local phone shop read the model incorrectly, I.E. my phone has "MODEL: RDY71UW IC: 2503A-RDY70UW.

What I need to know now then is why my phone, a RDY71UW, with tri-band support:
UMTS 800/UMTS 850, UMTS 1900, UMTS 2100 MHz is not compatible with Telstra Australia's Next G network?
I found the description for NextG "a 3G (wCDMA & HSDPA) network operating at 850Mhz".

    Is the RDY71UW UMTS 800 & UMTS 1900 & UMTS 2100 MHz and the
    RDY72UW UMTS 850 & UMTS 1900 & UMTS 2100 MHz ??
If this is correct, would the RDY72UW be compatible with Telstras NextG?

I can't understand why your particular 9900 (Model RDY71UW, FCC ID: 2503A-RDY70UW) is not compatible with Telstra's Next G network.
Your phone definitely supports UMTS 850MHz, which as you say is the same frequency Telstra Next G uses.

    My phone has T Mobile OS 7.0 Bundle 1315 v7.0.0.250. 3G/4G Bands 1,4,8.

I presume that loading Telstra's latest 9900 OS would make no difference to it's NextG compatibility.

That's your problem then. There is clearly a marking fault on your phone. You have an RDV model, not an RDY.
With 3G Bands 1, 4 & 8 you will never get 3G on Telstra's network, and changing the OS will make no difference either.

Hmmmm, is there a way of double checking the Model # before I go back to the supplier?
By that I mean by using Engineering Mode commands ?

Are you getting the model number from the sticker on the side of the box, or from the one under the battery?
An easier way is to just check the phone's Vendor ID... Alt + Right Shift + H
If it shows 100, then you definitely have an RDV T-Mobile US device.

The model # RDY71UW is on the stickers under the battery & on the box.
    I just did the Alt + Right Shift + H, Vendor ID = 100.
Soooo, I need a 9900 that has the AT&T Band 5 for NextG and these other US providers, Bell Mobility, Telcel, Telus, Rogers, TIGO use this band.
What is the difference between a RDY71UW and a RDY72UW?
How do you tell the phones date of manufacture?

Strange, you've been sold a TMO RDV phone with AT&T/Rogers etc. RDY stickers... not good.

I've no idea what the difference is between RDY71UW and RDY72UW models, or how you tell the date of manufacture, but both support the UMTS 850MHz frequency you require for 3G on Telstra Next G.

    Dear all,
    I'm a user of T-Mobile US BB9900 (UMTS 1,4,8).
I would like to change to "UMTS 1,2,5,6" and tried to edit E-screen.
However, I can't see any UMTS band menu in the E-Screen.
Please somdbody help me to change UMTS.

Can you please give me a link to that OS v7.0.0.250

Thanks, and by the way we only use GSM so I can't answer what you've asked.

    1) Why on earth would you want a link to that dinosaur OS? .250 is what North American 9900's shipped with over a year ago, and it was rubbish!
    2) Telstra's NextG network is GSM

7.1.0.258 was never released... leaked or official. It was only a 'demo' OS used on devices shown at DevCon Europe.

As for 7.0.0.250 that was only available from TMO-USA, and it's so old now that they've removed it for download from their site.
