I have a bold 9900 from at&t and when it in use, it would eventually restart. but when not in use, it remains on. no matter what i do, it still restart randomly. when connected to computer i can use it all i want, it doesn't restart at all. but when on battery after using it doing whatever, either by going through the phone (no network or Bluetooth or WiFi on) it would reboot when i just naturally use the phone. was on 7.1.0.523, when upgraded to 7.1.0.746, when downgraded to 7.1.0.649 (latest at&t version) then downgraded to 7.0.0.576 but none of these works. i wipe phone with bbsak to error 507 but that doesn't work. decided to do a more aggressive wipe and completely wiped until red light blinked twice in a row but nothing. did security wipe that doesn't work. i'm current back on .576 right now. can't really use it until i plug it in via usb cable.

Maybe there is a hardware issue? Even more so if you've already reloaded an OS on it. Did you just get it? If so get is swapped.

Did your 9900 just start with the rebooting in the last few weeks or so, because I have AT&T, too, and my phone just started rebooting about 2 weeks ago.

If you haven't installed any apps and you have wiped the device (twice), then it would have to be a hardware issue. Your phone keeps rebooting on various OS builds?

I did notice that when I use my BB plug adapter instead of my Kindle one, it doesn't reboot as often.

yes it does. no matter. but when plugged in usb, it works fine without the restarts. when its about to restarts the keyboard light shuts off but no trackpad, then when it reboots everything else shuts off (trackpad light / screen)

When you wipe the device do you perform a restore? If so perform a wipe again and NO restore.

    See how it is then...

Yep. Check and make sure its a tight fit to all the pins/contacts.

Also a bad battery can cause this. Get a new battery (CrackBerry sells them).

In fact getting a new battery is the first thing I would do.

also when its shutting down, the keyboard lights go out but track pad lights still on, then the whole phone restarts. everything doesn't turn off at same time like doing battery pulls

...that's how it works. Obviously doing a battery pull EVERYTHING would instantly go off

That lighting sequence you speak of is what you'll see if you perform a ALT + Shift (the one on the right) + DEL all at the same time (this is a reboot without removing the battery). Try it...

I have the 9900 with AT&T and having the same annoying problem. The phone started with this mess by last week when I updated to 7.1.0.746. Several reboots a day, and at moments 3 in a row made the device almost unusable. Today it got to my nerves and downgraded to the latest AT&T official version but it still does the same . It even made a reboot during a phone call! What the heck is happening??

Sounds like the OPs phone is forcing a shut down. Have you noticed something like the LED indicating your battery is dead? To me it sounds like your phone thinks it's dead and shutting off (hence why it doesn't have the problem on the charger). I'm just speculating, though.

what is OPs?? no led was blinking when it shut down. so like u said the phone think its dead and shutting down. does this have to do with battery?? or the phone itself?

    OP = original poster...

PS: how many times are you going to ask about the battery? LOL - like others have said, obtain another battery, and try it, and then let us know what happens. We're all speculating, and can't give a definitive answer without actually having the device and thus manually troubleshooting it. Make sense?

But, yes, you're right, it could be the battery. And, my assumption is based on the fact that it works fine when connected to a charger...

I've got a TMO 9900 that I got from Craigslist that has been having random reboots. Booting it up in safe mode (holding the Escape arrow while booting up) has stabilized it. On mine, from the troubleshooting I've been able to do I think it is a hardware issue. But just wanted to suggest trying to run it in safe mode and see if that helps.
