I bought a new bold 9900 from Amazon US this week. It does not have any branding on
the device but it says T-Mobile when I dive through the settings (don't remember
where I saw it). Would like to verify if this phone is capable of 4G HSPA+ or not?
In the cellular settings, I can only see 3G and 2G. The phone is fully unlocked.

Is there any way to have 4G on this via software? Or is this device really not 4G capable?

    Device Version: 7.1 Bundle 2940 (v7.1.0.1098, Platform 5.1.0.705)
    3G Bands 1,2,5,6

    Thanks!

Sounds like it doesn't have the right band for your carrier. I bought a T-Mobile 9900 to use on Rogers not knowing this and it could only do Edge. Apparently they all have the same hardware for all the bands but are limited by their carrier specific firmware and there is no way for an end user to change that.

You should also check to see if your current plan includes 4G, My current plan doesn't offer me 4G because it's such a cheap plan and i find 3G to be pretty fast and i never really lose the 3G signal which is another great thing. Also if Wifi works you could use that when at home, it also saves data usage, i used about 30mb in 3 days by using the wifi connection when i was at home.

Call T-Mobile first to see what area your hspa+ and 4g/3G run on in YOUR area because they are reframing network

Perfect example in 2011 my 9900 worked with T-Mobile edge Hspa+/3G and 4g but now I only get edge because they changed the bands that they used in my area to "u1900" which is not compatible on my device for any Hspa + or 4g.

The reason this happened is because of the failed AT&T merger they put the higher speeds bands on a different frequency so I'm stuck on 2g but I wonder if a Att 9900 will get Hspa+ on T-Mobile now
