Any ex 9650 users out there that haven gotten this new bad boy? Is it a HUGE difference? The reason I ask is because I currently have an Evo and i am honestly bored with Android now, nothing against it but just bored and really miss my old BB days, simple phone and emailing device. I am currently looking into getting back into BB and ran across 2 devices that have caught my attention. The Bold 9650 and the Bold 9930, from what i have read I think the 9650 runs OS6.1, and the new one of course OS 7. Other than the wideness of the device on the 9930, can anyone tell me if there really is a huge difference between them. Is the browser really that much better? The reason I ask is because i have a friend that just bought the 9650 2 weeks ago and he wants the 9930 so is willing to sell me his 9650 for $120, and i think thats a steal! (or is it ) or should i pay $400 on Craigslist for the 9930? Please give me your honest opinion CB forums.

First of all, the 9650 and 9700 and 9780 all run OS 6, there is no OS 6.1

Second of all, the 9900/ 9930 is 3 years newer and obviously has better features like double the processor speed, a dedicated graphics engine which gives you super smooth animations and effects when opening / closing menus, scrolling through contacts, swiping through emails and pics.

The 9930 has a bigger keyboard which makes it a pleasure to type on, and a bigger and crisper screen very ideal for browing now and watching videos. It is touch enabled so the ability to pinch to zoom while browsing and viewing pics is worthless.

Moreover, you get NFC technology, which is a technology soon to be pouplar for making purchases without the need of having your credit card physically with you.

the 9650 has a better camera though in close up screens as it has an Autofocus lens whereas the 9900 / 9930 have an EdoF lense which is only good to take photos at a distance, but the plus point is it doesn't require any time to focus and takes shots instantly, ideal for moving objects.
That could be a deal breaker for some if their work requires them to contantly take pics of text, tables, books, closeups, etc.

Other than that, the 9930 will beat the 9650 in every aspect.

It is not fair to compare a 3 year old device with a newly released device though. Each had its glory and shine when it was first released.

A few years down the line, people will think of the 9930 as outdated, that's just how the world is.

To sum it up in a single sentence, when you try the 9930 and feel the speed, you will in no way accept to have the 9650 anymore

Huge difference, almost twice the speed, the screen resolution is so much better. 5MP camera compare to 9650's 3mp, and don't get me started with the keyboard. The 9930's keyboard is to die for, I like the 9650's keys but 9930 took it to another level.

OS wise, I don't see a lot of difference from OS6 to OS7.

Might as well get the 9930, well worth the upgrade from 9650.

Good luck and hope you make the right decision.

It is definately improved but I wouldn't say a huge difference at all. The improvements comes in loading times of full non mobile websites thanks to the Turbo charged 1.2 GHz. processor but its not the browser itself making the improvement.

Now browsingi s actually possible on the 9930 thanks to the upgraded CPU which helps in rending large websites which contain graphics especially, and a bigger screen to give you a better view, and touch ability to pinch to zoom

Really? Wow thats big statement! Because thats the only drawback i had with the 9930 when i went to go see it at Sprint, was how slow the browser was, but if you are telling me that the 9650 is quicker with Opera mini then that could change my decision.

So guys I went ahead and sold my Evo for $200 and bought the 9930 for $375 so i ended up paying $175 for it, its awesome, the unit they have at the store feels cheap comapred to the one i have in my hands, the only issue is that the 2 keys next to the track pad, squeak but Sprint will replace it today since they said thats a manufacturer defect, i cant wait to get my new new one again! I already have a list of must download app! LoL my wife saw it yesterday and said oh wow this doesnt feel like the other BB's i said EXACTLY!

It is also of a better built quality in my opinion. I would go for the better deal and get the 9650. I have two and have never had a problem.

The difference between the 9930 and 9650 is like night and day. The 9650 is a nice phone. The 9930 is a great phone! I still use a 9650 at work and it's a chore, trust me. I love the 9930!

That just seems entirely not possible. I went from a 9650 to a 9930 and I even used Opera Mini on my 9650 and there is no way it comes close to the browsing speed and power of my 9930. Its not in the same league, **** its not even the same freakin sport

Had a 9650 and absolutely loved everything about it. From the form factor all the way down to the OS 6.

    Things I miss about my 9650 now that I have a 9930

    1) No Pandora - should be redesigned for OS 7 soon hopefully.
    2) The battery cover was slick on the 9650 - seems real cheap and chinsey on the 9930.
    3) Miss having the micro-usb on the right hand side of the phone - 9930 is on the left.

Look, maybe your method of comparing browser speeds differs from mine.....

I would like to see what Opera Mini on the 9930 would do.

Not bursting your bubble but the BB Bold 9650 came out quarter 2 of 2010. This is now quarter 3 of 2011....
