Is Q10 (supposed to be) the next phone from BB Bold series? Or there's going to be another Bold in the future which means they've not changed the name of the Bold series to 'Q' or whatever.. Help me understand this.

In simple terms, yes Q10 is the new bold.

So there's not going to be a new Bold phone, they're gonna be called "Q" now?

Thanks. So in that case I should probably wait for Q10 to come out.

Just make sure you want BB10. It is very different and if you like your Bold with BB7, you will never think of the Q10 as "The New Bold". Q10 has the same concept of the 9900 but BB10 keeps it from being anywhere near "the new Bold".

But there's not going to be another Bold. The new bold is Q10 as it has been renamed from Bold to Q. Is it that bad? The BB10?

I switched back to my 9930 and returned the z10 this morning. The form factor of the 9930 is the main reason. Other reasons are the maturity of OS7, and some associated apps that are not yet available on BB10. I want to get the q10 but what if the apps I use are not available? When the apps are available it takes a few revisions for them to get tuned in (how they function and battery life).

The Q10 looks like a Bold but it isn't. No track pad, home key, BBkey. Different keyboard. And of course no BB7 which I like and see no reason to switch to BB10. BB10 is not bad at all but it is a totally different animal than BB7 and that will be a huge difference. Get a Q10 if you are wanting the totally new experience of BB10 and want a physical keyboard but don't expect the Q10 to be a Bold. Part of what makes a Bold a Bold is BB7. Once you remove that from a 9900/9930, you don't have a 9900/9930 anymore. See post #8.

9900 now, Q10 after all reports come in, and once they fix all that is wrong with BB10, probably 2013 holiday season or 2014 Q1. If you can wait until then, Q10. Otherwise 9900 by any means.

This is the part where I get confused. Why do they change so much about it when it is supposed to be Bold but under a new name. I mean, is there going to be another Bold or not? I want Bold not just a phone with a physical kb.

I guess I should go for 9900 then.

I guess you are completely confused by the operating systems used.

Up until now, Blackberry had what is now called the "Legacy OS", which included stuff like OS6 (Bold 9780 for example) or the latest OS7.x version (used on Bold 9790 and 9900 for example), however this operating system and its structure is simply outdated. So Blackberry created a new operating system, similar to your computer if you would change from Windows 98 to Windows 8. The new OS is called Blackberry 10, or BB10 in short.

The new Q10 uses the new BB10 OS. Since it is designed completely from scratch, you absolutely can't compare BB10 to any previous versions. Lots of stuff have changed, many things for the better, but a few features a still missing or are handled in a different way. With BB10, Blackberry also decided to ditch the old brand names like Bold or Curve. So most likely won't be a new Bold flagged device, but rather another Q named device.

While there most likely still be one or two new OS7.1 devices this year, they most likely will be Curve devices. The Bold series has always been the flagship series for Blackberry. However the new flagships need to come with BB10 to stay competetive, hence if you look for a future Bold, you'll need to look at a Q device, in the current case the Q10. However if you want the classic, known Blackberry experience, you should get a Bold 9900, since there most likely won't be another OS7.1 device which will outclass it.

I think you're getting the word "Bold" to confuse your issue here. The Bold 9900/9930 has a different operating system than the new phones they are introducing. Right now you have a choice of operating systems (BB7 or BB10). The Q10 is the next phone that will have the qrty physical keyboard and is slightly larger than the 9900/9930. It has the new operating system (BB10). All upcoming devices will be based on the new operating system. So your choice is really get a 9900/9930 with the BB7 operating system or the Q10 that has the new BB10 operating system.

I'd also like to point out that the Q in the Q10 might not remain there in the next wave of devices. They could very well rename the phone the N10, or the X10 and so on. BB never came out and said they were renaming the bold line with a Q.

Okay, I think I get it now. Haha. Sorry for being a noob, but that whole thing was a bit confusing.

So in the future the new 'Bold' will be under a new name and with a new OS (BB10). So Q10 will be the next 'Bold' (or flagship phone) by RIM. That's what I wanted to understand. I hope I've understood the whole renaming/upgrading thing now.

It's all down to whether or not you need a proven stable OS or are able to be an unpaid Beta Tester for BB10.

If you rely on your phone for busines and need to get your e.mails quickly and reliably then the 9900 is a good choice. However, if you are more of a social user then BB10 may be for you.

Personally, I'm giving BB10 a good 12 months to mature before I consider it as a viable alternative to my well proven 9900

The reason I returned my Z10, but did not say goodbye. It was more like "Let's stay friends, until you gain some weight".
Went to 9900 as a very late adopter, after being very well served by 9700 since the moment it came out.
Most likely 10.2 or 10.3.. or even 10.5, because the functionality from 10 to 10.1 is not enough to call it a major improvement, or anything that will bring back those who returned their Z10. I loved that phone!

I am the VP of Sales for an Aerospace / Defense company and travel about 100 nights a year to countries all over the world. I use the z10 now and came from the 9900. The z10 works perfectly fine for a business user like myself. Emails are instant with exchange active sync with no issues there. Would like some of the mature email functions on BBOS to be added to BB10. IE delete on handheld and desktop option.

You know I skipped the z10 because I want the keyboard of the 9900.
I'm really hoping the Q10 packs something special in the OS other than what I've been reading on CB.
If it's the exact same OS then I'll be getting a couple of 9900's to squirrel away when my primary 9900 fails.

That is what keeps it from being the new Bold. New name, new OS and don't forget new keyboard, new size, new everything. How much more can you change and still think it's "the new Bold"? It's as much a new Bold as the Z10 is a new 9850. The Bold is discontinued with the new OS.

Okay, we agreed on that. It will be the new flagship phone by Blackberry. So in terms of that, it is the new 'Bold' (as Bold 9900 is/was the flagship phone), but there's not going to be another Bold-named phone.
