At These Prices, Fortune Doesn't Favor RIM's BlackBerry Bold - Yahoo! Finance
all this talk about the phone being too expensive is hogwash. Everyone knows they will come on sale in like two weeks. I really don't think it will affect sales very much.
Also, the off contract price (at least for the 9930) is extremely reasonably priced at 500 dollars which is much lower than the iphone 4 and plenty of android phones.
And RIM doesn't set the price, carriers do.

Funny how they left out that the Bold has upgradeable memory capabilty (with up to 32GB micro SD) and that often Blackberry models can be had for free (or at least lower priced) on contract.
Definitely up to carriers. If Telus here can sell it for $149 on contract, and Rogers on a whim just lowered the price by $50, it's all up to the carriers. They want to see the early adopters scoop up as many at as high as possible a price, then gradually lower it.
prices will comes down eventually...not to far from now.
i paid $190 with tax for my 9900 on contract... absolutely no complaints
Actually, there is nothing "reasonable" about any of these prices...sure this particular retail price might be lower than the iPhone but it's still way over priced. Do you people realize these phones only cost just over a hundred dollars to make and assemble?
Consumers are being ripped off and then some... This is how mobile phone manufactures get rich! Talk about turning a profit...
Not everywhere, in our country we buy usually directly from company. RIM is selling it for 32,000 INR.
The cost you just made up doesn't even cover the materials for a phone let alone development costs, manufacturing etc.
+1, $199 for myself, 9930
Getting back to the original point it almost seems like the carriers in the states are deliberately trying to sabotage the os7 launch with these unrealistic prices, unless they are expecting a launch frenzy from bb fans who have been waiting for these launches for a while and intend to price them sensibly in a few weeks.
the article is full of biased BS. A brand new Iphone is $700 or more where as the Bold is $500. It is fully the carrier's choice to subsidize a small fraction of the Bold's price as opposed to a big chunk of the Iphone. And where is the Bold's browser still under par when compared to the Iphone (and what makes the Iphone the standard anyway) when the speed comparisons were neck-in-neck? Anyway, on Monday I will walk in the Sprint store and get one of the $250 Bolds. And Iphone was never even a far choice for me when looking to get a new phone. Why? Well, no way to replace the battery, no way to have any non Itunes music, no way to put a Micro SD card (which you can remove and put in a camera or another phone), no flash support, no physical keyboard...
I paid 199 for mine and dont have a complaint at all
I paid $800 for mine...i know, ouch!
Apparently it was worth it.
the article takes the easy road and jumps on negative sentiment bandwagon that eminates from south of the 49th. The reaction might be a bit protectionist as homegrown brands that have been market leaders and innovators (motorola, palm) struggled to find their way on their own as the technology and the market evolved
The comment on the pricing structure ignores a number of key comparison factors in the market place (apple's single model, android's multiple manufacturers) when it suggests that price is too high.
Although I use my own handsets, I'm a fairly standard enterprise user of the BB service. I will early adopt a few things, but generally, I like to use functional technology to make my day run a bit more flexibly. I've owned a pearl 8100, pearl flip, bold 9000, and pearl 3G, but hadn't upgraded to the torch or 9700 because the devices weren't a significant upgrade in the user experience for me.
That said, the bold 9900 is an entirely different beast. I've had it for 4 or 5 days, and the suggestion that it is too similar a device to previous models is ludicrous. The device is night and day better in terms of form factor, usability, speed, fluidity, and operational functionality. It's a great device, the user experience is very good, and the ability to have a touch screen and an exceptional keyboard on the same device is far more beneficial than I anticipated.
I suppose the media looks for something new in terms of OS to write about, compare, and generate easily written copy, but as a user, whether a device is OS7 or QNX to me at this point is moot. The 9900 is far ahead of it's predecessors.
I paid 149 on 3 year. I'd rather pay 249 on 2 year if it was available.
PLEASE T-Mobile make it $199 2yr upgrade when it comes out on Aug 31st! Ive been a customer way too long, hook me up or something!
