I just bought and am using a blackberry bold 9900 from a Z10. I couldn't remember what forum the question about BIS and if you needed to change the Internet was asked, but I'm here to say you do not have to change anything. I am using it just fine(internet, email, apps) and I haven't changed a thing.

It all depends on your carrier anyway. There is no correct answer for all carriers.

Correct. With Verizon, for example, the Bold 9930 does have a SIM slot, but it's only for international use. You have to do a call or chat with a Verizon rep to switch from a LTE device with a SIM to an older device with no SIM.

In my situation, I had to have my carrier change the data code to BIS on my data plan (at no change in plan or cost) because, even though I had internet on my Q10, I did not on my 9900. US AT&T. With BIS on, I can swap my SIM card between the two and still maintain internet connectivity.

I have AT&T as well but if I have BIS on when I insert the SIM into another device I can't get LTE. Do you have this problem?

Nope. I've put the same SIM into my Galaxy S4 and Q10, which are both LTE, and both eat LTE data very well, thank you.

Hmmm... Idk why it doesn't work for me. Every time I switch the SIM I have to call and have it formatted for LTE again. Kind of a pain when all I want to do is swap phones every now and then. Lol

Just chatted in with AT&T and was told they no longer have the BIS service for Blackberry Bold. I'm not a happy camper right now.

Wow, really? Looks like Verizon and maybe Sprint are the last BIS holdouts?

Funny thing is i just used BIS last week. I switched to my Note for a few days and now they tell me they don't have it any more.

Maybe you got an incompetent rep who doesn't know any better?

After a 45 minute chat session we got it working. Apparently the first person didn't know what they were talking about.

I suspected as much. Good to know you got things sorted. I imagine there is still a fair amount of AT&T customers on legacy BB devices that require BIS.

That is not correct, I activated another line on my plan using my 9900 and I have BIS. I was told that it is all in how you activate the SIM card and what device is used to activate it. I had them activate my new SIM (micro sim so I could switch between BB10 devices also) and had them enter the IMEI from my 9900. All works fine. Just another example of how carriers, and their tech's/reps don't know what they are talking about.

So when you take the SIM out of the 9900 and put it in a BB10 device do you get LTE or do you have to contact AT&T? When I switched my SIM from my 9900 to my Note 3 I'd only get 4G the the LTE wouldn't kick in.

As above. Q10 and S4 get 4G LTE due to their built-in radios, 9900 gets 3G BIS.
