Running OS 7.1 and no new apps at all. Could it be my wifi here at home? or maybe the wifi calling feature could be slowing it down.

That is an absolutely ancient OS.

The latest release .794 is bundle 2218 just to give you a comparison as to where you are with your current OS

You don;'t say which carrier you are on.

If you are on AT&T then you need to upgrade to http://forums.crackberry.com/blackbe...-694-a-745885/ or consider the BL Hybrid version which is a significant improvement over the stock OS
    http://forums.crackberry.com/hybrid-...-users-746299/

If you are not on AT&T the your choice is somewhat wider. You can try either .746 or .714 both of which are pretty solid
Blackberry Bold 9900 version 7.1.0.714 (7.1.0.2061) officially released today by Vodafone UK.
Blackberry Bold 9900 version 7.1.0.746 (7.1.0.2108) officially released today by Redington.

Or of course the BL Hybrid versions which again are a significant step up in performance over teh Stock OS's

I would also advise a wipe before you install your new OS

BlackBerry 302: A complete wipe and clean install of your BlackBerry OS | CrackBerry.com

Rather than back up and restore your apps a fresh install from app world would also be a good idea.

Should give your phone a new lease of life that the likes of which will really be night and day compared to what you have now.

This is what I have seen before with similar phone problems:

You may be having a program that is running in the background that you are not aware of. Most likely you installed what we would refer to as a third party software, and this software is faulty, or could be doing something in the background without shutting down (exiting out). If it is not what I am describing, then maybe it could be a defect in the phone (very rare), or it is something in the configuration that is not set up correctly.

A fairly guaranteed way to fix this would be to first backup all your data, such as the address book, schedules, tasks, notes, links, and etc. Then wipe the phone. Re-install the operating system, and then retrieve the information you backed up. I suggest to not restore all the added third party software that you've downloaded. Only use the original Blackberry software. If you had the Bridge software for the tablet installed this would not be of any problem to put back.

Now run the Blackberry phone for a number of days. If you see that it is now running okay it is possible that one of the third party programs you installed was the fault.

I have seen poorly written or corrupted software cause devices to run slow, or take too much current, and thus in some cases drain the battery faster.
