So, according to MeterBerry, my phone's battery is 26 degrees celsius in idle.

Today I was really using my phone a lot: BBM, Facebook chat and other apps were in use, and I noticed the back of the phone got quite hot. MeterBerry says it was 38 degrees celsius. The performance was not compromised during this hot period.

Is this normal temperature? How hot does your phone get?

My battery idle is also around 26 c and after heavy use will sit around 30-34c. Battery discharge with wifi/H+ active is about 2-4%. Pretty good as my area doesn't get the best coverage as of yet. And lots of push services acrive. When I'm out I have an average discharge of about 5-7% which is what my bold 9700 use to be with 3G and wifi connected. My school and work place don't have good coverage soo I keep wifi on (network calling FTW). But its impressive after about 15 hours my battery sits at about 30%. Pleanty enough after LOTS of use through the day. If you don't get similar results, switch your battery asap.

Mine usually hovers around 29c-31c. With moderate usage it jumps to 32c-34c and heavy usage it goes as high as 40c. Only when charging and completely idling it goes down to 24c.

I just got MeterBerry (thank you CB for app o' the day )

Mine will usually idle around 89F (32c) but I have yet to see it when I've been talking a long time, and I know from experience it feels much hotter then, so I'm curious/nervous to find out.

Has anyone determined what a healthy battery temp should be? TIA.

Is this your reading, or info on what a healthy temp should be?
If the latter, my baby's got a fever
I'm guessing it differs by model too...hmm....

Just got off a long phone call. 114F = 45.5C

That sounds really hot compared to what I'm reading! It feels hot too.

I guess I'll write to the RIM folks to find out if I should be concerned? Any other ideas?

    TIA!

p.s. I should probably mention, I do close virtually all my background apps.

My Bold 9900's battery has gotten hot before. It usually only happens when I'm using it a lot though. My Torch 9800 did the same thing and so did the Curve 9360.

Seems like this is common with BlackBerries.

Thanks for all your readings and suggestions...
After further research and, most importantly, a long conversation without my case on (it only went to 35!) I think there's a lot of variation between phone brands, models, and cases.
Most importantly, I haven't had a problem with usage.
When I'm sitting safely chatting away, I'll keep my case off.
When I'm out and about, using less-intensively, I'll leave it on.
Hopefully all will continue to function well!
