- Is it even technically possible to squeeze in that much juice into the JM1 battery? The original 9900 battery is rated at 1230mAh but people are selling batteries up to 2430mAh. Thats almost double of it!
I would believe if the can squeeze in additional 20% but not double right? Its like they are selling a 5000mAh AA rechargable battery Ni-MH battery which is at this moment unheard of.
What are the sacrifices involved when they try to pack more juice into this small battery package? Why don't RIM actually sell a higher rated battery? Why do they settle for 1230mah?
Or is this just false advertising or what?

Let's say they can pack 2500 mAh to a pack but it drive up the cost by 80%. So, they probably went with a low end 1230 mAh to save money.03-03-12 09:25 PMLike 0

Its like 1 lt of Coca Cola. Can you use the same bottle and put in 2 lt of Coca Cola there? I assume not UNLESS there's some new Li-On technology that allows you to squeeze in more juice into the small package.
- Charles03-03-12 10:05 PMLike 0 - If you check carefully, these people selling 2000+ and 3000+ mAh batteries for 9900 sell them with a "back panel". This back panel replaces the standard back panel on your 900, so once you put in this extended life battery your back will look pregnant. I prefer to carry spare battery.03-04-12 12:30 AMLike 0
- I have a 2nd battery with the jm1 standalone charger and I can honestly say the battery itself makes it through a full day of use but if I go out at night is when I have to slap the spare in.
Not a big deal and gives me peace of mind.

But then in this case RIM should make better battery and can sell it.mystic84 likes this.03-04-12 02:28 AMLike 1 - If you check carefully, these people selling 2000+ and 3000+ mAh batteries for 9900 sell them with a "back panel". - Charles03-04-12 02:41 AMLike 0 - Though I'm not a battery engineer / specialist but an EE w/ 20+ yrs in the field of electronics, if packing more mAh in the JM-1 was possible RIM would have taken that route I am sure. At the most, you can pack approx. 1600 mAh (25% more) in that size from what I feel.
Anyone promising more in that JM-1 footprint gotta be bluffing big-time...
BTW - serious batteries come from Japan, US, UK & Europe. The China varieties we see around are mostly dubious !! But then, even the battery stalwarts these days gets their stuff from China (but under their license & supervision) to curtail manufacturing costs.
I would rather buy 2-3 more Original OEM JM-1 to drive my BB rather than slip-in one of these after-market batteries, barring Seidio who knows what they're doing - though RIM won't endorse them for corporate reasons.
Some of these after market batteries can have a long term electronics failure possibility of your BB.
That's my 2 cents ...BigBadWulf likes this.03-04-12 02:57 AMLike 1 - As far as I know, the 9900 originally wasn't designed for that 1,2GHz processors - which need that much juice.
The 9900 was designed for a 800MHz processor, just like it's battery - with that "slower processor" and the new code of the OS7 1230mAh would have been more than enough. (It also was cheap to buy for RIM)
The 1,2GHz which they finally built in was released short time before they wanted to launch the 9900 to compete with the Iphone and Droids out there.
Everyone complained about the lack of power.
That also was the reason why it took a half year longer to bring out the 9900. They had ro rewrite the OS7 code for the new chipset.
But with OS7.1 batterylife will be a lot better and after all batterylife with 1,2GHz and that big touchscreen with that crappy battery is still better than from the other smartphone makers.03-04-12 11:34 AMLike 0 - @ Slash82 :
Indeed! I got to agree with you. 100%. 1230mAh is no way sufficient for a 1.2 gigs processor. But then, RIM had already struck the deal deal so they went along with it. When users started to 'really jump & grab RIM's neck', they started to scratch their heads and thus - we have the 7.1 variety now.
I just hope RIM goes out and really puts their mind into developing better battery performance from all the 9900 they sold so far, even if they address the issue using firmware methodology. With Thorsten in the driving seat & his progressive attitude, it look very positive.03-04-12 03:57 PMLike 0 - I have a 2nd battery with the jm1 standalone charger and I can honestly say the battery itself makes it through a full day of use but if I go out at night is when I have to slap the spare in.

Where did you find the standalone charger...not to hijack the thread or anything...03-04-12 04:08 PMLike 0 - 3rd party battery sellers can make ANY claim they wish.
It is all a matter of battery chemistry and physics. There is no way you can squeeze more power in the same size battery using the same chemistry. If there were RIM would have done it.
You will find the 3rd party batteries will last no longer and many time not a long as the RIM OEM battery03-05-12 05:26 AMLike 0 - 3rd party battery sellers can make ANY claim they wish.

What i know that Galaxy s2 Battery wasn't that good as well, Samsung made a new Battery (Even Through its Really Expensive) But yea it is actually Possibleemirozmen likes this.03-05-12 06:49 AMLike 1 - Not if it was cost prohibitive or would have made an impact on the thickness of the device. If they were not willing to incorporate autofocus cameras into the 9900's for fear of making the device thicker - I doubt they would have done it for the batteries.03-05-12 08:03 AMLike 0

So still no battery engineers out there who can contribute and help?

Even a miracle can't squeeze more than MAX 25% of the total energy in that J-M1 footprint.
A Japanese friend of mine is researching if Sanyo or Hitachi-Maxell in Japan was contracted for the J-M1.03-05-12 09:11 AMLike 0 - I have one of those "gold" 2450mAh batteries and I can confirm that it doesn't last any longer than the original battery, but at least I now have a spare!03-05-12 09:26 AMLike 0

I've been using a pair of those. I charge them on an external charger and they work out pretty well.

The amount of money companies spend on battery research is MORE than the amount of money all the Canadian hospitals and companies spent on prostate cancer research last year.

Imagine if car manufacturer start to falsely double their horsepower on paper or RIM start to claim that their phone can last 5 days of talk time.
