    Hi guys,

Mind sharing your battery drain rate?
Mine: 1-2% [idle], 2-4% [light usage].

Also, I hear many people on this forum talk about "settle period" after OS upgrade, can you please explain the logic behind it? [battery calibration?]

My battery drain rate per the built in analyzer was roughly 6.2%. Just received my replacement 9900 so will be testing it this week.

As to your other question in relation to the battery there isn't a settling period. Lithium batteries do not get "better" over time. They charge their best the first time charged. There is a little minor debate that the first charge may remove a passivization layer but if this was true we wouldn't even see the difference. Lithium batteries lose their ability to charge over every cycle charge. Again, very small difference we wouldn't notice charge to charge. This is why it is recommended to keep to charge your battery at about the 50% mark. Goodness knows, I never hit that mark to recharge.

Now, this isn't to be confused with calibrating a lithium battery. Typically there is an IC built into lithium batteries that once they hit a 5% level, they then measure the point of charge and the fully charged position which provide feedback to your "battery meter" thereby "recalibrating" and providing accurate measurement of full to empty charge. I do not know on a Blackberry at what percentage the phone shuts off. Probably easy to watch with the analyzer if you have nothing better to do...

As to the OS, the OS can improve many items (radio software, applications, etc) which will affect the battery usage and rate of drain based on consumption. It doesn't change the battery per se just makes the OS more efficient at using the charge the battery provides.

Lastly, and this will be a point of contention, OS settling is rubbish. One battery pull is all that is necessary to insure the newly installed software registers. When changes are made on your PC or laptop has anyone seen recommendations to do multiple battery pulls to insure the registry "settles" down? A phone is no different, just hardware, software, and firmware. Nothing magically changes over time, the chipsets receive their instructional sets the same as the first reset as they would on the 5th.

    Hope this helps!

Agreed 100%. "OS Settling" is a completely baseless statement invented by some individuals here who get off on making things up - for the sake of hearing themselves talk.

This is what "OS settling" actually refers to. Usage habits.

Yes I'll admit, I previously believed in OS settling. Large deuce. Reboot when needed.

I first heard about it when OS 5.0.0.607 was released for Storm2 and it was a huge pile of FAIL. "Let it settle in, then judge." Still cracks me up to this day.

I'm sitting at about 4.8% an hour, so my drain is pretty good.

    Idle: 1 - 1.5%
    Current: 3.1%

Battery at 90% and I took off the charger at 10:00 am.

O/S settling isn't a load of crap. Its taken 2days for .267 to settle and stop draining the battery at quite a mental rate for me.
I do have a lot of apps installed though.

Now I'm at 2.1% with 87% left. No extra charge boost. 3% drop in 3 hours... nice.

I feel like there is a settling period/habit period. I just upgraded to .267 this morning and after taking my phone off the charger with 100% battery life it went down to 53% by 2pm. Actually after I unplugged it off the charger it went down from 100% to 93% after 15 minutes and I knew today was not going to be a good day for my phone. At 5:30pm my phone was down to 23% and I decided to recharge the phone. After having the phone off charge from 8:30pm-10:30pm the phone is at 89%...That's a 5.5% battery dischage an hour after texting non stop, BBMing, web surfing, and downloading an app. I will take this any day over the 7% battery drop after 15 minutes I had this morning.

According to the Device Analyser, mine is 3-5%(idle) and 7-10%(light usage). I think it's acceptable.

That's horrible. I wouldn't be happy with that. 2% idle, 3%-5% usage is acceptable! Do you have a lot of apps running and set to auto refresh often?

there were long arguments over this statement/belief
    realistically, an OS can't 'settle'

Why does it seem that a battery pull or two helps after a fresh install? I'm not saying it does... but I have noticed that it more or less helps. Maybe it's all in my skull...
