My 3 year 9900 broke down 2 weeks ago. So I have been on CB and spending 30+ hours reading most of the forums.

I was going to use my ATT upgrade and buy another phone. After reading about the no tool belt on the Q10, I thought I would wait till the Q20. So I bought a 9900 from a dealer. I had no idea what "bad or active ESN" means.

I read on a ended thread that the ESN did not matter for ATT. I am hoping I can just put my sim card in and start using it. Or did I get screwed?

    Blackberry Forever!!!!!

ESN's make no difference to AT&T. They don't use them anyway. It's an often occurrence to sell a phone with a bad ESN to be used on a GSM provider, generally at a discount. However, that device is also possibly stolen, reported as being stolen to claim insurance or someone never paid their bill. That said, I'm not the morality police but you shouldn't really have issues with activating it on a GSM carrier.

Your post does puzzle me though, how is it a 9900 or did you mean 9930? In this case, accuracy of your info does matter.

From a dealer Ebay ad said 9900 he had 99.5% feedback. I just don't know why he didn't clear it. Bought it this morning.

BTW thank you very much for you quick reply.

I'm not sure if it will work. As of the past couple of years, the carriers share their list of blacklisted IMEIs (I believe ESN is the equivalent that matters to CDMA carriers.) If I were you, I'd try it out, and if doesn't work, return it ASAP within the proper time period or invoke eBay/Paypal's buyer protection.
