I purchased an unlocked 9900 from Expansys in 2011 to use in the US on AT&T. I recently upgraded the OS to version 7.1.0.862 which was the latest official OS for AT&T. After upgrading, the gps and bb maps have been rendered completely useless. Since the device is unlocked, is it a requirement for me to only use "approved" OS, or is doing so the reason for my issues.
I see there's a later version 7.1.0.1033 that was just released. Are there any risks with installing this? If not, might there be a possiblity of fixing my navagation issues?

Unlocked means essentially nothing when it comes to your OS. Install any compatible OS you wish, there's no real risks to it.

You can install any OS for your device you wish. The only caveat is sometimes a non-carrier OS will "break" something. Doesn't happen often but if does happen. If it does you can always downgrade.

Since each carrier network is different they test and approve OS's separately. Verizon may find an OS acceptable and release it while other carriers find the same OS creates issues or does not function as expected and don't.
