This is a stupid question...but one I need a definative answer to.

I am thinking about coming back to BlackBerry again from my iPhone 4s, and trying to trade phones with someone that has a 9900. A guy on my local Craigslist swears that he has an unlocked 9930 that he is using on T-Mobile and has used on AT&T with no problems with either voice service or data. He insists that because it's unlocked, it can be used on any carrier service.

    I call BS.

I know the 9900 is on AT&T and uses GSM connection. The 9930 is on Verizon/Sprint, and is CDMA. I don't think the 9930 will support AT&T...will it? (humor me please...!)

No he is right..it will work but will only get EDGE. I used a unlocked 9930 on AT&T for a good while and it actually worked pretty decent even though it was on EDGE..the speed was comparable to a BB OS 6 device on 3G.

Yes. The guy is right. If the 9930 is unlocked then the GSM chip you put in will work.
But there may only be 3G speeds not 4G as with a 9900.
