I just made my transition from a 9700 to a 9900 and I am noticing a significant data usage increase, I have the same apps refreshing in the background, facebook, twitter and weather and they are refreshing as least often as possible and bbm usage is about the same. So I have the exact same setup on both of the phones but my data usage was usually under 1.5 mb per day with the 9700 and now with the 9900 I am anywhere from 3 to 6 mb per day. My question is why?

    More surfing?

Nope, there is virtually no change in the amount I use these apps or browse the web but somehow it consumes more data, I'm wondering if its related to the H+ now instead of 3G.

And a much more robust browser. Also the limit on email content is much higher. 8Mb for attachments, 3Mb of content, for a total of 11Mb per email potentially.

    Turn on "data compression."

I can't imagine data speed has anything to do with it.

Believe it or not I never bothered setting up email on my bb, and does the os7 browser really eat up more data?

I thought data was compressed as it goes through their server and didn't have anything to do with the phone.

...and where would that option be?

In certain apps there is a "data compression" mode. But in this case, I mean compression of memory which is found in "storage" Uses less memory which could help stop using excessive data..

    Seeing is believing.

    Yes

    I'm quite curious as well

That's a form of file compression, ie zip files, and has nothing to do with data usage. It will cause lag for most users, and is something I wouldn't recommend setting.

Ok. I didn't know that. Thanks for the lesson.

It's just an annoyance because there seems to be no reason for the usage jump

It's a faster phone so it uses data faster

No problem. I was hoping you'd teach me something.

There's good reason. A much improved BlackBerry.

Yup!, I loved my 9700 and now I don't know if I'd use it as toilet paper
