So has anyone successfully installed .296? I just got my 9900 (yay me!) and I want to know if I should upgrade or if I should sit at .261

    Hmmm...
    LOL
Why would YOU share your connection with strangers?

I can think of few ways of using it myself, with the most obvious one: connecting my laptop to the WiFi on the Bold, and perhaps even in the same time my GF's netbook when we are on the go.
Speaking of my GF: another example is her WiFi capable phone, but no good data plan When we are together, she can simply connect her phone to my WiFi, and use my dataplan.

But actually as many people are here, so many different ideas can appear for the usage... I am sure including sharing with the strangers

    Cheers

Well i am planning to install the same tonight and see what happens...? The default OS from Redignton which comes with the ones getting sold here in India is ver 261 and I feel the same is buggy ..

I have faced two random reboots in last 20 hours for no reason I can think of and everytime the event log shows JVM error after the reboot...

Not that I have seen any lag and freezes though ...

I see Rogers Page in blackberry.com, has been updated with 9900 and with the Rogers OS .261

Thanks, I had already found it yesterday. That firmware (.261) seems to be buggered - terrible battery performance, at least in my case. Changed to this Vodafone firmware and so far the battery life is much, much better.
Good to know. Need to know what to install on mine when it arrives.

Did it by any chance happen while you were on the Twitter app?

I've noticed it happen to me about 7x now all whenever I'm on the Twitter app, either replying, reply all or just reading tweets.

I'm thinking of downgrading except the "stock" OS from Bell isn't on their software download site yet.

    FAIL.

Looks like we are buggered for a week or two until another carrier releases (coughs) leaks another OS for our 9900s.

This might have worked before but it certainly does not work anymore. Even after deleting vendor code and trying loader, it doesn't recognize an OS to put on the phone. Other people have tried to with the same results today.

You are right ... I upgraded to 296 and then again downgraded to 261, because of terrible battery performance .. but the usual process of loader.exe, delete vendor.xml gave me lot of hassles and pain, twice my phone went into error 507, driver could not be loaded etc etc .. after three /four attempts the upgrade/downgrade was successful ....

How come my 9900 does not upgrade from 261 to 296? After installing the OS, I delete vendor, open loader.exe, but all it shows is google maps and weather eye. I can't even add or delete languages. After finishing the process, i check my phone's version and it still says 261. All I want to do is install a new OS so that I can change the phone language into japanese and be able to type in japanese...
