Hi guys, new here from Waterloo

I owned 9900 for about 4 month and everything worked fine I never charged it over night but I just gave it to my gf few days ago and she charged the phone for the second time since getting it and she charged it over night. This morning phone was bricked.
Did this happen to anyone else? Does overnight charge burry 9900s or is it just a random event?

I guess that I have been lucky. I have had mine since the AT&T launch and charge it every night. I turn mine off and then plug in an OEM charger. I am running OS .583.

It's probably only a matter of time before yours bricks. As well, it may have to do with turning the device off. There is not a found cause yet.

chrisy i really appreciate how you are on top of the bricking situation in this forum, every body else seems to think its a game, this is serious. People are spending their hard earn money to buy these phones. I cant wait until it happens to a celebrity and they blast rim on twitter, then maybe they will get the big picture

After 4 months my original 9930 bricked overnight. Tried to reload the os but it would not establish a connection. I have read others have successfully revived them by loading os's above .374. I never tried it my self, but thanks to insurance I received a really nice certified refurb next day no charge. With BB ID and a fresh backup I was up and running in no time. First time it happens it sucks. If it ever happens again I no longer have the fear or anxiety having gone through it once. The replacement is a better build, and has not skipped a beat and I still have superb battery life. I still think its worth it. Love this Bold!

dont be so quick in judging. nobody think of it as a game. if they act as if (and you translate it as "they think its a game" ), its an act of frustration because theres NOTHING we can do about it. RIM doesnt care. but hey, life goes on. you buy 99xx, its your own choice.

The bricking at night when things go bump inthe dark is a strange one indeed. I will have mine plugged in for 6 hours or more while using bridge on my pb and so far (knock on wood) I've not been bricked. I do not charge overnight and try to charge before below 20%.

Different phone but these seem to be bricking also.

I've been using a 9930 since release date and have never had an overnight brick. I charge my phone overnight, every night. I've only had one bricked 9930 and that happened after I did a reset on an app I installed (which I think wasn't OS7 compatible...); Got a JVM error.

Although, on VZW 7.0.0.374 I did wake up to a blinking red light, ONCE, and a battery pull put the phone back to normal, no problems since, and definitely no problems on VZW 7.1

EDIT: One question though... has the overnight bricking issue been mainly 9900s? Is it rarer with 9930s, or just coincidence that most of the overnight bricking threads have been related to 9900s if I'm not mistaken?

    You cannot compare.

The number of 9930's on the global market is minuscule compared to the number of 9900's, so it's obvious you'll see way more reports of problems with the 9900.

I agree! Two of our four bricked 9900 units happened in the middle of the working day with zero warning!
