Hey there,
Recently I've been torn between these two phones, now let me explain my situation.
I live in a horrible service area, so having a radio that gives the best signal strength is top priority. I had the first torch and was comfortable with it, but the new bold ... never had one, would like to give it a shot but again, signal is huge for me.

I have the 9800 and the 9900 and the only thing I miss about my 9800 is the screen size. Other then that, the 9900, to me anyways, is a better phone all around. A friend of mine is upgrading from the 9800 to the 9810 this week as opposed to switching to the 9900. He really likes the screen size and doesn't want to give that up. I loved the original 9000 and have been waiting for the 9900 for almost 2 years, so it was an easy switch for me. The only network issue I'm having with the 9900 is the occasional loss of the BB connection, but I think that has more to do with the 9900 running on Rogers hew H+ as opposed to the 9800 running on Rogers established 3G. I'll have a better comparison once my friend gets his 9810 which will also be on the H+ network.

I believe signal strength has more to do with which carrier you choose. Some carriers are better than others for your situation.
Try to find this info on BlackBerry.com. Is there a spec giving you info about reception ability? Are they the same?
Referring to the Torch 2, I believe thats the 9810 ? Screensize I don't know if that will matter to me either way, Bridge with my PB and whats the point of having a bigger screen, thats how I'm rationalizing the screen size anyway.
Yes it does have much to do with the carrier, Telus is the best one out here, however, the phone also has alot to do with it, prime example would be my Storm 2(which unfortunately I'm currently using) vs the Samsung Galaxy S Fascinate 4g, The Galaxy has horrible reception, now granted it uses the HSPA network but, so did my previous Torch 1, which had wayyyyyyyyyy better reception.I'm guessing the 9900 and 9810 (get 9810 not 9800) are the same for reception.

I think both are great phone (9900 and 9810)
Both are the same spec ,I think the reception is not differnt, if you want better signal you should considering about your carriers that suit your location

as stated previously Telus is the best Carrier in my area, if both phones have the same radio then I suppose I'd go with the 9900 but after hearing about phones being bricked, battery life etc I'm almost a bit skeptical, however buying a better battery and software updates can remedy both
I tried to look-into-it and I believe the 9900 is not better than the 9810 for reception.
In your phone (my phone is the 9800) in options -> device & status info -> Signal, you'll see signal strength (when I have 5 bars its -70 dBm, at 4 bars I get approx. -84 dBm, etc.) Would the new phones have -60 dBm for 5 bar signal strength? Can people with bold 9900 and torch 9810 phones share their 5 bar signal strength numbers?
I doubt the 9900 has some kind of better signal booster, the phones are almost the same price :confused: Are there any RIM phone engineers on crackberry.com?
If you have low signal strength in your area you might want to install a cellular repeater where you live.
I just looked on my Verizon 9930...
3 bars got around -93db and 4 bars got -85db
Blackberry Torch 2 (9860) is superb. I've upgraded from a Bold 9000, and my main requirement was a proper keyboard so I had a choice from the new Bold and Torch. The bigger screen on the Torch makes it a far more useful phone.
its actually a fact of rallying the advantages. i love the sexy 9930 keyboard. the 9810 keyboard is too narrow. some people can type on it but some cant. no matter what the responses are, its actually personal opinion which matters

If I had the choice to upgrade, I'd go for the Bold 9900. I have the Torch 9800 now, and the keyboard on the 9900 is the best!

I have big hands and all this talk about the 9900 keyboard being SO much better than the 9810 is funny. I have zero problems typing on the 9810 and have a larger screen to boot. Personal choice but I went with the larger screen.
Yea some pple like the 9810 keyboard a lot. I just find it fumbly and hard to use

That's why it's great to have a choice. It just seems the keyboard thing has become a catch phrase, and I bet a lot of people that say it have never touched a T2. I would always prefer choice over having to settle for 1 form factor.

Definitely the 9930/9900. I know the larger screens are nice, but the 9900 screen is plenty roomy.

For keyboard, 9900.
For a compromise 9810.

i really love the Torch 2 .. but i will buy the 9900 because it has better materials which makes it stronger .. while the torch body .. lemme say its **** :P ,, Everyone of my friends have problems with it ... Lock button .. Keyboard .. the quality is not that good ..
But Hey !! .. its still a good device !! good screen size , Reliable Price , Better Camera (Yea Strongly in that point)

What is the 9900 made out of, steel?
9900 is a sexy phone, has some problems though thats for sure!
I don't have quality problems with my Torch 9800.
I believe the 9810 skin is aluminum.:cool:
What dBm values do the people with 9810 and 9900 phones get for 5 bars signal strength? The 9800 is -70 dbm :p
