I'm about to get my 9900. Just wanted to ask what people feel going from a 9700 with OS6 to 9900? Is it that big a jump?

I remember when I went from my Curve 8300 to Bold 9700 I felt like I had gone from a Toyota Tercel to a Lexus in a day without driving anything else between.

Would love to hear your thoughts on the 9900. Good phone or too many issues?

Why not just go to your local carrier and try out the phone? I don't get what you're afraid of, change? I love my 9900. As I just said in another thread about people hesitant to get the 9900 because of "reported" (rumored) issues. Go get it, you have 14 days to return it, buyer's remorse is what it's known as. Good luck.

I made the same move. The 9700 with OS6 is really good but after using thge 9900 you realize that 0O6 was really made to be a touch OS. I use the trackpad more than anything on my 9900, but that convenience of just touching what I want versus having to scroll to an icon or dialog really just makes sense.

The keyboard is fantatsic but what I miss most about the 9700 is the size and feel in the hand. Looking at the 9700 now it looks like a toy in comparison to the 9900, but I did love how the 9700 feels in the hand. I wasn't worried so much about dropping it or scratching it.

I wouldn't go back through. 9900 us just too good.

Big change for me. The 9900 is the perfect size with an amazing keyboard. I personally didn't like the panels, so with OS7 being able to turn them off made me really happy. 9700 is a great device bit I feel 9900 is a level or two up from that. I wouldn't mind seeing a new device the looked like the 9700 in the 9900 size though. Good move by RIM on making the 9900 look like the 9000 though.

    i jumped from 9780 yo 9900..
    its a new experience...
    1) Suddenly you will feel how thick is 9780 (9700),
    2) Ease and luxury of big keypad is amazing.
    3) Form factor is really good, make pleasured BB experience.
    4) Touch + Type make you faster and more productive.
    5) Keep extra battery or charger with you.
    ...
9900 is good phone except very poor battery life.

    What I can say:

    Software:
The biggest OS (from OS6 to OS7) improvment for me was the browser.
The new HTML5 browser is really a great thing!
Superfast and you can see all that HTML5 content!
Also the liquid graphics give you a nice experience using the OS.

    Hardware:
Great keyboard! I never used such a great one!
Screen: Awesome! Crisper and greater colors!
    Processor: Super, super fast!
Touchscreen: Never want to use a BB without it anymore. It helps a lot the navigate in the web, or looking at pics!

    Negative points:
Batterylife: I often have to charge my device twice a day (but I`m a heavy user).
Camera: The 9700/9780 had a great autofocus camera.
The 9900 one is disappointing, when you are used the "old" 3/5Mpx.

Thats all I can say to the major differences

Couldn't have said it any better. After moving from 9000 to 9700 I missed that "Bold" feeling when holding it. I willingly signed the pertition for RIM to creat another Bold in 9000's form Factor...Lo and behold....they heeded.
Go get the 9900 I will say....it's an experience you shouldn't miss.

I can't really add a lot to what people have said already but I'll add my '2 cents'. For me, OS7 is pretty similar to 6 just with nice little tweaks here and there, one thing you'll probably notice (it's the first thing I did) is the speed, this thing is fast! The camera, for me, has been fine, I was used to the nice auto-focus of the Torch and whilst I haven't taken loads of pics with the Bold, the ones I have taken haven't been too bad. When it was first released (having never used a 9000) I thought the 9900 looked massive and it probably will seem it going from a 9700 but after only a week I was so used to it and couldn't imagine using anything else.

    I went from 9700 OS5 to 9900 OS7

The keyboard is what I was looking forward to the most as the 9700 was so small. Totally faster including the browser. Not too crazy about some of the theme stuff but that's easily remedied once themes start showing up. Not really a fan of touchscreen but I got used to it pretty quick and some things are easier just to click from there.

Thank you all. One thing i am struggling with is the memory on my 9700. After upgrading i run out of memory a lot and if it wasn't for quickpull i would be upset a great deal. Reports indicate as do the specs that the on board memory is 8gb. Is that for apps as well or is there a split between os and apps vs the media?

Have you looked at the bold 9790? Its the newer version of the 9780 but with the features bold 9900, OS7 but with auto foucs, and with the compact size of the 9780 and alittle bit thinner like the curve.

That 8 gb is strictly for media. I believe the 9900 has 700 odd mb of app memory compared to 512 for the 9700. But there is less free app memory in the 9900 perhaps because the OS is bigger.

i wonder why they limit it?

9790 looks good but hd video recording is not there. Screen is what im concerned about

i will have a look at the stores for sure

The 9900 has 768MB application memory compared to only 256MB in the 9700... 3 times more!

biggest magic is how entire 768 MB is eaten up and only about 150 or less is left to use..
i wonder... how does OS less than 250 MB (installer, and installed on PC about less than 300MB) takes more than 600 MB of device memory

You will feel the same again, I did just that and it's a huge difference, I can hardly type on the 9700, keyboard feels tiny and the phone feels thick.

I find I'm much faster on the 9900, watching other people handle their full touch phones actually frustrates me lol, they look in slow motion.

I always have 200mb+ of memory, have you deleted those pdf files? they take some 40mb of memory.

You won't regret it. If you find your battery life is less than acceptable, swing through the stickies in this forum or the leaks forum and grab one of the newer OS's. .540 and .585 seem to be getting the best battery life so far. Other than that, I'm sure you'll find the experience to be superior to the 9700.

Goid luck, and let us know what you think once you've had some time to mess with it!

Yeah, I've got over 211 mb free with 23 3rd party apps installed. Can't really see me running out any time soon.

I have 232mb after loading several large apps. If I go to App Manager/Memory it says I have 378mb. How do you have only 150?

After three months of using the 9900 I can honestly say I am so happy using this phone. What a world of difference a phone can make in just a month. I went back to use my 9700 and found myself trying to use the screen. The keys felt so hard even though I used to love the phone.

There are issues with the phone which are well documented, battery, camera etc. However there are so many features I love about this phone, MEMORY, 8gb space, video, KEYBOARD, APPS (yes I said apps)

No complaints from me. Thank you all for your input once gain.

    I upgraded from 9700 (OS6) to 9900 (OS7.1).

Overall I must say its a huge leap forward with a few notable points:

    1. Battery life on 9700 trumps the 9900, by a few hundred miles...
    2. Picture quality of the 9700 trumps that of the 9900, although 9900 has noticeably better white balance.

    My two cents worth...

Wow, I've made the same move as well! Had the 8330 though, but my 9700 was my favorite. Jumping from OS6 to OS7 isn't anything you won't get used to.

It's an awesome phone and it's really responsive, but my major annoyance is that the battery life isn't that great compared to my 9700.

    agree with consensus.
camera and battery of the 9900 is worse than 9700.

    another aspect
like the 9700 the 9900 is for right handed people.
the bold 9650, curve 8900 are perfect for lefties.
