So, I got the 3500 mah battery from Amazon today.
So far I can say this much. It works, the cloning worked as described.
The back cover has the NFC antenna, which I was not expecting.
Its not real pretty, but not terrible either.
The phone still fits in the Blackberry charging pod.

If it works out, it will be nice for those long days away from power.

Woah!! That battery is huge.. Hopefully it will last for a few days before it gets charge again.. I can't see myself hauling around with that battery though.

Uhhh, that's hideous! I would consider it if it wasn't quite so intrusive, but forget that. I have my brightness as dim as it will go, and I guess I'll just have to deal with it. I'd just assume carry a second battery around.

How is it working out right now?

So far so good. It seems like it will last 2 or 3 times longer than the standard battery. I did receive the 2400 mah battery as well, I will try that one next. That one looks to be the same size as the normal pack. I'll be surprised if its really 2400 mah. For $10 the Amazon battery is a winner.

Just ordered one myself and looking to see how it long it lasts.

Not a fan of the size of the back cover, but going to attempt a case hack i saw on another thread, using a otterbox commuter and a scalpel.

Google search the Droid Razor 2 coming out in the near future. It's got a 3300mAh battery good for 21hrs of talk time. The phone is even thinner than the 1st one. C'mon RIM. Give us JM1 with 2400mAh capacity, same sized of course.

I've had my 9900 for less than a week, and every day I'm down to 10% by the end of the day. Today I had the phone off all day at work, save an hour at lunch where I was browsing the web. I went to the Canucks game after work, and by the time I got home at 11:00 I was down to 8%. I expected this, but it's not good enough for my needs. So tonight I just ordered one of these instead:

Wow! That looks hideous, I would never put that thing on my 9900.
Just carry a spare battery, it is so thin and kight, you wont notice it.

By the way if RIM pushed out 2000 mah battery (same size) for some extra bucks, they could sell thousands. Its not like they dont have the technology.

Curious to know if you need to keep decoding upon doing a battery pull... thats the biggest killer for me when it comes to batteries. I refuse to have to keep recoding a new battery.. sounds like it could easily leave you stranded.

Yup. I can confirm that with OS 7.1 on a Sprint 9930, any restart and you lose the battery. Not just a battery pull. That's a buzz kill for sure.

I don't get the whole battery coding thing. Is this RIM's way of preventing anyone from making a better battery? What is the benefit?

Yes basically rim encoded the batts so they can't be replicated. Companies haven't produced encoded batts for years afaik. Its ridiculous.

To the guy who said any *restart* will result in needing the battery recoded: that's ridiculous. Screw all that. I just want a damn batt from rim or seidio that works and works-well!

Well there is no denying the battery life is quite good with this battery. Should easily last you 24 hours. I pounded it pretty hard and it made it. It's ugly though, and does not survive a reset without re-coding.

Its $10, hard to go wrong if you can live with it.


I'm testing the 2430mah "Gold" battery now. It's the same size as the original battery so the standard back fits. This battery, once coded, seems to survive battery pulls. I did two pulls in a row and it came up each time.

Interesting! I'm interested in that Gold one perhaps... would love to know more about how long a charge lasts and if it for-sure doesn't need to be recoded after battery pulls!

same problem here, less then a hour, my fully charge phone drops down 12%! less than a hour!

i would love to buy this battery but i dont think i'm going to sacrifice my sexy 9900 and put a hunch on its back
