Hey, really nice review, well done
Thanks
One thing about QuickLaunch and SixTools tho, not using a holster and i couldnt care less about some noises these apps make when putting the phone in a hoster (simply because i dont even use a holster), their main purposes obviously are the extra convenience keys and the shortcuts
And as you said, you dont find them that useful at all, and said its because you're running the phone clean and its so fluid and all that, sure.... But your review also makes me think that you dont really use many apps (cuz you only talked about bbm/sms/email etc)
Sure then they might not be the most useful apps, when you only have 4 things you constantly do on your smartphone (and these things are always running in the background anyway, so easy to get to them with holding down the menu key), but QuickLaunch + Sixtools become VERY useful when you use more than just 6 apps or so
I'll be using about 30-40 apps when i'll get my 9900 (get released already please !!) (Not counting things like email/sms/browser/calender and all that, only talking about apps like facebook, twitter, bb app world and 3rd party applications etc)
So when you add stuff like sms, email, calender, browser and all that, you'll maybe have about 25-30 things you constantly do and use, and another 20+ things you do from time to time
And when thats the case, i think QuickLaunch and SixTools are a must-have, unless of course you feel like searching for an app for like 15secs or type in 3/4 of the applications name in universal search
Instant acces to anything you wanna do on your smartphone by just simply pressing 1-2 keys
I think thats quite awesome and useful

Great review, i have had mine for 5 days and have to say loving it.. battery life is an issue for me 3-4 hours maximum, also i have noticed my menu changes every few days( i have 1 convenience row, next days this will change to 2 rows, then 0 rows, then back to 1 row) i have not touched the setting this appears to happen over night, this isnt really an issue it kind of a game i play(which will it be today)
over all LOVEEEEEE the phone
Well, you actually may get an answer to whatever you asked about. I actually might have answered as well, if I'd been able to get through your post. But your writing style, incl. the bold font and no capital letters make it really difficult to understand.
Just a thought...

Yes, if you are someone who has a lot of things running, then for sure, I can see the value.
They are great apps, well written, and I am impressed with how fast the programmers made them "OS7" ready.
As for apps I run, well beta testing the app world 3.0 right now (fantastic, by the way), playing with Wikitude, flixster, Blackberry Bridge, BeBuzz, Facebook, Twitter, Rogers My Account, Scoremobile, Weathertrax, and of course BBM. There are some games on there but I don't really play games on my phone as I use them for show off pieces. Don't forget their is some decent 3D processing going on with the Bold now as well.
Having the panels means I can have one just for my apps and with one finger swipe and click I can run it. If they are running, I hold my berry button down and pick the one running. I guess some apps make it faster to do, but by less than a second maybe. On a phone pre OS6 I think these utilities have a lot more to offer, but kind of like with Windows, as time went on, third party ideas start to get integrated in the next versions and that is what I am seeing here.
otis supreme (love the handle!)
Is the camera worse than the one on the torch or the autofocus ones that came on some previous phones? That is subjective.
Is it worse on close up shots. Absolutely. Focus isn't as sharp up close. If you are someone who takes pictures of business cards then you won't be doing it from as close anymore. I take pictures of business cards to send back to the office so that someone can add the customer to our database and prep a quote with the proper info on it and I still do this by taking the picture from a little further back and using the built in "crop and save" option. It is still easily readable.
Is the new camera better at shooting motion. Yup. Without having to auto focus, the picture comes off faster and you don't get as much blurring with motion or out of focus when there is movement.
Is the new camera better for video. Absolutely, and in my active world with 3 kids playing sports and living life, I take more video now than anything and having the aspect ratio set properly holding the camera upright does make it easier to use and hold as well.
I have a nice Canon T2i with 18MP of RAW that I can use when I need detail. I need something that is a jack of all trades camera in my phone. This works great for my everyday and I don't miss the autofocus at all.
Not trying to make one camera sound better than the other, but RIM isn't the only manufacturer using this technology and I am sure we will be seeing it more as phones get thinner.
Adam did a good comparison here.

[QUOTE] being able to really use your phone one handed. Try that on a slider, or a touch screen and see the accuracy./QUOTE]
this is the key, if you need to use to hands, use a labtop
only half day,
need to charge twice a day???
i am going to get one as soon as they come to at&t
well 1st off i made it bold so it WOULD be easier 4 ppl 2 read. 2nd off, i didnt kno we were in english class. i type on message boards, facebook, etc pretty much the same way i type through my texts. now had this been a job application or anything profesional i WOULD have spelled out "to" instead of "2", etc. but seeing as how this is a PHONE forum, im pretty sure we ALL use the common text abbreviations.....if not i kno ur texts take FOREVER 2 send out lolsmh. u make it seem as if i misspelled every word or typed it like Yoda would have. anyway, "thank u" for your "input"....
just a retort........
thanks a lot shad (helpful once again)..........and wat specifically should i leave out when i transfer my info from bb desktop to my new bold?
and am i being too cheap or should i get sprint to try and go lower? lol
130? That is a great price. I wouldn't be nit picking for less than that, I would be thankful and tell the salesperson that you are going to name your firstborn after him.
I took my contacts, bbm contacts, and that is pretty much it. I think I took some settings too because my lightsaber phone ring transferred over. No apps, I downloaded them again.
lmao!! well i already got 1 so it would have 2 be the 2nd lol..........funny thing is i was on the phone ordering my bold when this response came through lol.
ok. im thinkin my music and pics should be ok too. not too worried about the apps since they're saved in bb app world. i love the fact that u can get a new bb, log on, and re-download all the apps u had without having 2 remember them all (thanks 2 bbid).
oh and do u have a screen protector? and if not, do u know if it would affect the touchscreen function?
MY BOLD SHOULD BE HERE THURS/FRI!! :D
I am on my 6th Blackberry (TOUR 9650) and am eligible for an upgrade at Verizon. I am really torn. There is no question that Blackberry is the best productivity device on the market. I am a heavy email (several hundred a day for work), phone and calendar user; and for those needs, the BB is the way to go. A physcial keyboard is essential for my use.
BUT - - I did use the Thunderbolt for a few weeks when it first came out and the web experience on that class of Android device is spectacular. Web pages, navigation, google maps, reading and editing longer documents, etc. were so superior to any Blackberry. And, LTE is crazy fast, as good as my Comcast broadband at home.
So, do I carry 2 devices? BB for email, phone and calendar and Droid for web and apps? Or, maybe a BB and ipad or some other tablet?
Thanks for the details review, I have some questions here about the ergonimic of 9900 compared to torch 9810/10.
I have big thumb covering 1/3 of normal handphone screen, so full touch screen handphone is definitely out of the way. I like bigger screen and was aiming at Torch 9800 earlier, but once i found out they still use the old CPU I dropped the plan and i know there will be "improved" version after so many complaints.
There are 2 handphones in my mind, BB 9810 and HP Pre3; but after HP announced the death of Pre3 last week, 9810 becomes the only choice. I almost get one but is holding up because of many says that 9900 is better than 9810.
1) I see that 9900 trackpad is very close to the screen. Is there a problem when scrolling on the screen the finger accidentally reach the trackpad and the scroll direction becomes messy?
2) The trackpad of 9810/9800 is not at the same level as keyboard. For those used to standard layout, is that annoying for the thumb to travel between 2 different levels during navigation/typing?
3) I know it is an offence messaging at driving. How bad (or good) 9810/9800 perform in this situation compared to 9900? I travel a lot and need to do this often. Need to type without looking at the screen and just peer from time to time.
4) I will use car charger often. When the phone is being charged, how convenient it is to pick up the call using left hand for 9900 and 9810? I see the location of USB port is different between this 2 phones.
These questions require comment by people using the phone for some times and not easy to tell by just simply visiting to the shop and play for 5-10 mins.
Other info that i gather about 9900 vs 9810
- 9900 has unmatched keyboard.
- 9900 has light around trackpad
- 9900 screen is glass and 9810 is plastic(?)
- 9810 has AF camera
- 9900 has NFC (not important to me)
Thank you.
AF camera is important in the technology now.
shad, don't take this the wrong way but that is selfish of you to take your kids upgrades and use them for yourself.

Great post...
I am curious about this, can the Storm2 be used on Rogers? I didn't know it could...
Posted from my CrackBerry at wapforums.crackberry.com
123berry, yes it can, pm me and I will send you the link to the guys I used to unlock it and they were great and reasonable. You don't get the full speed network but it works great.
litebulb....boom. You nailed it.
My kids (3) cost me close to 200 dollars a month so there is no guilt at all of me staying at the top of the tech world in my house because I am paying for 4 people to have phones, including myself. My wife is also on a BB curve 8530 with telus but once she gets done that plan we will move her to Rogers. Just a better network all around when it comes to speed and coverage.
I have saved my 13 year olds upgrade to the qnx phones next year, and then my son gets a Bold 9900, middle daugher already has a torch 9800 (she got my white one this time round) and my 13 year old will get a torch 9800 as well. I kind of think she will keep her storm2 as she loves it, so my wife will inherit it.

One handed, bold has no comparison. Very easy to use this way, slower obviously, but usable more so than any other phone I have had.
Trackpad has not gotten in the way for me at all. I use touch screen for bigger selections, but trackpad arrow for small ones. Browsing is great, and I don't mind the built in maps program.
Car charging and you don't have a headset, or a speakerphone in your car? I could care less where my charge jack is as it is jacked into the car with bluetooth so I am not holding the phone. That I find dangerous. I drive a standard. 9800 and 9810 feel top heavy to me now. The 9900 is so much more balanced.
I still play with it, spinning it around in my hand like a card, still amazed at how well made it is.

bold 9900 and playbook. Great great combo. Fast, bridge browsing works great, and email and bbm on my playbook while my phone is in my pocket.
I built a base using the center cubby in my car that holds the playbook like it was built for it. Playbook bluetooths to a speaker phone that broadcasts FM so I can play podcasts, etc. Lets me know when I get email and bbm messages as I tether to my bold so I have internet connectivity at all times. I don't answer while driving but if it is important I can pull over and answer off the touch screen of the playbook. Also has the advantage of showing me who is calling before I answer the call with my car system.http://s1122.photobucket.com/albums/...t=DSC00228.jpg
Great review!! So far my BB 9900 has been great, but battery life has been pretty bad. I have made some tweaks and deletions to see if that helps. If it does this is the best BB I have ever had. Great keyboard and touchscreen really makes for an easy and efficient phone which is what I look for. If I want to play games I wouldn't do it on a phone. I could use a PSP or PS3 for that. I use my Mac for internet. I will give it a few days to see if it is better on the battery life.
