If you have the Full version of BeWeather then you can. Its has been a while since I used BeWeather, but there should be a setting under Homescreen to show your weather.
If you have the free version of BeWeather it won't give you the option of putting on the home screen. What you can do is use the free version of BeWeather, download Fancy Widgets, and then you can put your weather anywhere you want on the screen. Great app, I use it to put the calendar and the weather on the homescreen. Just look on the menu to be able to move the position. Lots of peeps use it then get ticked when it lays the calendar on top of the weather. I put Calendar on the left, weather on the right. Works great with the small banner themes.
Fancy Widgets + Berryweather does allow you to have the weather on your homescreen. However, you can't click on the icon to open Berryweather and it only works with the Default theme or themes that are wallpaper-friendly.
If you just want something clickable on the homescreen to bring up the weather with one-click, you can use Move and move it to the first item on the All tray. Alternatively, if you use Berryweather, in the options, select Show Temperature Badge in Notification Area (it's in Settings). If you use Accuweather, in the settings with Live Icon Enabled, click to select Enable Ribbon Data. That allows you to access the weather in two clicks -- It will show up as a thermometer in your notifications area.
Just use the native shortcut (w) with berryweather installed . You will have to enable application shortcuts in options. If you want weather on screen use wallpaper function of Berryweather(paid version). I don't think the free version has this function.

That's correct: you need the premium version of BerryWeather (aka BeWeather) for the customizable Home Screen options.
My setup is the same as you described. I have a non-clickable weather icon I've made using BW. My BB has Launch By Typing (in Home Screen Preferences) set to Application Shortcuts, so clicking W opens BW if I want more info.
The BW iconset I'm using above is Textual.
FYI, the BW Home Screen cooperates with certain apps that rotate wallpaper, such as Wallpaper Changer Pro and QuickLaunch.
