I've been looking at the default theme on my 9930 for months and finally gave in. I went to the forums, learned from others how to put together an OS7 theme, and ended up here.
Foppa21
Streamlined top banner with large clock and date for easy viewing.
No battery meter, GPS or network indicators (to make room for more useful information).
Supports all other indicators, including Bridge, NFC and Mobile Hotspot.
There are now several versions of this theme with different combinations of default and custom clock, signal meter & indicators.
Navigation and icons are based on the default OS7 theme.
Foppa21 is for 9900/9900 phones running OS 7.0 or 7.1.

Foppa21x
Has custom notifications along with the custom clock and signal meter.
Hi. I just upgraded my 9650 to a 9930. I'm missing all the little functions I had in Foppa15 on my 9650 (like clicking on date to bring up calendar, clicking on time to bring up clock, a Weatherbug slot, etc.).
Near as I can figure out, those types of theme enhancements just aren't available (yet) for OS 7?
Correct. There is no OS7 Theme Builder available from RIM today. Everything is being done via coding using the default theme as a foundation. We can make changes to the top banners (move some things around, change out the meters, etc), but have no real controller over the default layout and navigation.
I’m certainly no programmer, so there may be possibilities I’m just not talented enough to unlock. I plan to keep digging on my own and following the forum threads, but as of now I don’t know of a way to truly customize the home screen the way my previous themes operated.
Note: I did add the "$ hotkey opens SMS" in the beta, but couldn't get it to work consistenly and gave up. If I do get things like this working, I'll rev Foppa21.
Foppa I have always loved your themes! Actually, thinking about it now, I can't even recall the last time I used a theme that wasn't yours. Always so simple with no extra BS added.
Keep up the awesome work, looking forward to seeing more from you when the updated Theme Builder eventually comes out...
So what app do we need to still get battery status??

Exactly. Seems most people now have some sort of "battery app" so the default meter is just redundant information. And since it takes up so much space, I prefer to leave it out.
This is such an amazing theme!! Love the minimal banner so you can show more of your wallpaper! Love the size of the clock, just a great theme! Thanks Foppa and I'm looking forward to see your following themes. Keep up the good work!!
Some of these screen shots have battery status, current temp, and other things in the notification area. I have apps that displays those (Meterberry, Weatherbug) but can't figure out how you got them in the notifications. ??? -- Brand new to OS 7 - maybe you can tell.

The are all in the options/settings for each app. For MeterBerry it's the first thing listed in options. For BerryWeather I think there's a section of the settings called homescreen.
