Go to 9700 Theme Forum and look around... I'd try to find a Today or Today+ theme.
I'm not sure if it'd help, but I really like my theme. It's uncluttered and simple. Put any picture you like on the homescreen. Then if you put your calendar in the first position on the left, it will open when you press your trackpad - so your calendar is hidden, but always available at a click.. :)

I found a couple that shows the calendar, but my tasks do not show up on the today view (i.e., only the events show up). Is there a theme anyone can recommend that can give me both events and tasks? Thanks.
Have you thought of having a go at making your own. I recently made a Today theme for myself and found it quite easy for a simple theme. Not too steep a learning curve and all the necessary software is availble for free download from the Blackberry.com web site.

here is my simple theme. You can design it with whatever programme you want on the home screen.
Based upon my internet Googling this morning, and buying two different Today themes this morning, and finding one free them app this morning, and downloading a Pocketday professional trial, it appears that there are no themes in existence to view the tasks on the home screen without pressing a button -- the only method I have found would be to create a duplicate entry as an event so that it shows up in a calendar view with a today theme. If anyone has a way to force the tasks to show up automatically as a theme, please chime in. People in the forums who have designed their own themes, apparently can only create an icon that says tasks which is essentially a shortcut to opening the program -- but does not display the tasks automatically on the home screen. I am disappointed.
Quite right I just tested it. I was wrong, but maybe someone knows of a way?
For those Googling for answers, here is my take on the issue: Find a theme that you like that displays the calendar events all the time or on mouse-over. Then for those important tasks that have to get done in the next couple of days, you can convert or copy a task and make it an event, use an application such as AddOnis or Pocket Informant -- set the event as an all day occurrence so that it shows up as 12:00a on top of the other things / events happening during the day -- then just move the to-do events each day if the task / event was uncompleted. Keep the master task list intact and move all uncompleted tasks to the current date in one fell swoop with Roll Call Tasks. If anyone has a better method, please let me know.
I was wondering about this too...I recently migrated from the awful world of WinMo (not too good of a place to visit, definitely don't won't to live there) but I used to have a Curve 8300 and I could have sworn that tasks were included in the today, as well as calendar and messages. Am I crazy?
The goal is to have to-do tasks show up on the home screen as a default without running any extra programs. In other words, when you close out all programs or when you reboot, there needs to be a reminder in my face to get something done today. No button pressing -- just a default reminder in my face on top of the wallpaper (whatever that may be). A few themes do this for Calendar events, but not for tasks -- even though the calendar program is instructed to place tasks on the calendar, it does not show up as a theme -- i.e., it is necessary to access the calendar or task program to see what the tasks are.
Just type the really important ones into the calendar as someone said above. I was looking for the same thing endlessly and to no avail. Its just impossible to find a theme or an app that will satisfy what we are looking for. I'm using Slick tasks as my Master list and am using Aneto's Today with Bottom theme. If you need the link I can send it to you. My 2 cents input. :)

Themes aren't capable of showing Tasks, they will only show entries that are in the Calendar. There are those work arounds mentioned above, but themes cannot just straight up show entries that are in the Task app.
