I came across multiple Ebay listings for the 9700
and please dont tell me anything about waste of money blah blah. I have enough.

I was just curious if the phone is still functional in 2018?
Can I still access general Text, Email, Wifi, maybe Facebook messenger
Maybe get a prepaid SIM card for a backup phone? (i live in Canada btw, if anyone has knowledge of any plans)

as opposed to my old Bold 8530, which is CDMA locked, i cant really do much on it, other than play music and show off to my friends

9700 still works for now. But Facebook messenger I don’t believe exists for the device.

The 9700 will work. BIS may work too depending on your carrier plan. The OS is 5, so consider update to 6. Keep in mind some housekeeping will be required to get it running with appworld and BIS services. It has wifi, which is great.

With all this talk about the 9700, there is one other thing to remember.

Many carriers are planning to shut down their 3G networks over the next few years. Around the 2019-2020 time frame. The way many have already shut down the old 2G/Edge networks.

Probably why BlackBerry planned their shutdorn when they did.

3G carried cell and data, so with without it, no calls or texts.
