I would love to go back to the basics with the BB 9700. But is it still good to buy it in 2017? I am on the verge to buy one and I need some advice. Thank you in advance!

It depends on your definition of 'basics.' what do you want to do?

    No.
Without knowledge about "basic" requirements you shall not say simple "No". Maybe basic for him means calls, text messages, emails, calendar, notes? If yes - still worth it - and non of the current non BlackBerries(without physical kyb) will be enough good.

    So yes, still recommend 9700.
