I continue to be a 9000 fan but the features (memory, speed, screen, and camera) of the 9700 make me very jealous. A lot depends on personal preference. The 9000 size works fine for me. Others like the smaller 9700.

Best shot at personal decision is to go to the store and use both phones for a bit of time. Get a feel for which one is better for you. Both are very fine phones which will be hard to beat IMHO. You may be very happy with either one.

Get the 9700. By every objective measure it is a superior device when compared
    to the 9000.

Also, I put up a poll for you

No question the 9700 is what you should get. Pros over the 9000 are superior battery life, higher res screen (slightly), higher res camera, twice the device memory (256mb vs 128mb). Yes it is smaller in physical size than the 9000 (which most consider too big). Now go get your 9700 and enjoy it!

    Getting a 9000 or a 9700..

i would highly suggest going to a store and playing with both to see which one feels better in your hand... i love my 9700 and think the 9000 is to big, while a co-worker loves his 9000 and thinks my 9700 is to small.

and where i work we have a 8900, 9000, 9530, 9630, and my 9700.. and my dad has a 8310 so i quite accustom to all the sizes, and functions.

the poll is heavily in favour of the 9700. has the 9000 really fallen out of the public opinion that quickly? both are great handsets. the 9700 is a superior handset in nearly every aspect. but the 9000 is excellent.

i dont think its a matter of if the 9000 has fallen out of favor, it has always been a little love or hate its size. The 9700 is the upgrade to 9000, easy as that. Some people prefer the larger sized 9000......more people prefer the proper sized 9700.

You dont mention whether or not you are going on a contract or not. I think its an important point.

It would make sense to get the latest, or newest technology available if you are signing a contract since you will be stuck with that phone for 1-3 years.

If you are purchasing outright then you could save a lot of money by choosing the 9000. Prices are not exactly "cheap", but they are lower than the cost of a 9700, and if you are new to BB phones, then even the 9000 will probably blow you away.

As for size, i prefer the 8830WE, and my new Otterbox Defender case makes the 9700 about the same size as the 8830WE except thicker of course.

I moved from the 9000 to 9700. But if I could have the 9000 body with the 9700's guts, i would take it without thinking twice. I like the 9000 size better. It just felt much better in my hand, the keyboard was better, and the screen was a little larger.

They are both good, so which ever you decide, I am sure you will be happy.
