Does anyone here know of a phone shop/ tech geek here in northern NJ that will "fix" this chunk of garbage AT&T Bold so I can set the OS to 2G? I don't have time to debrand and unlock the phone myself and I'm not interested in the e-screen method. PM me if you know of anyone who can do this.
I almost went back to Verizon and ETF'd AT&T today all due to dropped call fury.

No need to debrand or anything, just update to one of the newer 4.6 OSs for the 9000 and that option will be enabled. Off the top of my head I cant remember which OS it was added in, but check out the most recent 1 or 2.

Updating your os doesn't debrand or unlock.

Just update to .282 if you don't want to go the debrand, or Engineering screen route.

Update to 282 and you will be able to run 2G & 3G or simply 2G.

yes .282 gives the option (like all other carriers have) to select 2G or 3G, or 3G and 2G

Ok Shao, I apologize. So, the largest complaint known to the Bold users (not being able to switch to 2G)has been addressed in an OS upgrade. This is fantastic news!
Thank you everyone. I've been so busy that I've not had the time to read about this. But I will now.

All I have to say is WOW. I downloaded .282...I used to peak at 42MB after first reset installing .282 I was at 54MB. And I can now shut down 3G for highway phone use....fan-effing-tastic. If I keep dropping calls like I have been (10-20 per day) I'm going back to VZW and cya Bold. I'll suffer with a Tour or the 8900

Yes!! You would've hated me if you heard all of my B*tching about calls failed a few months back. lol

And that annoying tone after the call failed made it even worse....

So Teek, how many calls per day do you drop now? Tomorrow is my first test. I'll be gabbing on the phone all the way from the George Wash Bridge, to Exit 7a on NJ Pike where I usually drop at least 5 times.

I don't drop any calls now on 2G. I think you'll see a huge difference immediately.

And by the way, before this OS, I used the e-screen method and it worked great also and is not nearly as difficult as it may have appeared.
I mention this in case you need to downgrade from .282

Uhoh..downgrade? Are the "bad points" about .282 really that bad? The only thing I read is some people had buggy keyboard buttons

Oh no 282 is great for me, I don't have any issues at all (except memory card thumbnail pics load really slow). But as you see in the thread, different people have different results for diff reasons.

some have bad battery life, wifi issues, rebooting, etc
but that happens on each OS release.

Don't know what the problem is - I'm always floating between Bucks county and south Jersey and my signal is fantastic! Dropped calls are probably less than 1% of the time.

Oh Nikon, I'm happy for ya. Try driving up the NJ turnpike to the top. Or across the GWB and over the cross bronx...it aint like that area is thw boondocks..its really ashame. CALL FAILED
Anyway, only dropped 4 or 5 calls today. Twas my first day using 2G all day. Still sucky. I'm not impressed, but I've got a lot more testing to do.
