I have a feeling this device is going to get abandoned very soon, unless they're preparing the Android Oreo update, but my main concern is the lack of security patch updates. We are still stuck in April 1st 2017 patch security update.
It's a discount device. PT BB Merah Putih is clearly only paying for occasional updates from BlackBerry instead of monthly.

And how does that help Blackberry as a brand when one of their device is out of date? Even if the Indo Company is paying for these updates, it should be in the interest of blackberry to maintain this device. Even though this device is a discount device, it still feels like a very good device with full capabilities. I haven't seen any limitations with this device compared to a Samsung Galaxy or Google pixel or even an iPhone 7. By the way, I don't need a waterproof or an NFC device.
Doesn't matter. The support level is up to the licencee. BlackBerry is clearly good with that. The licencees understand their markets, and in this case, evidently feels that keeping the price down is more important than paying for monthly updates.

If Blackberry is clearly good with that then they cannot be trusted with security and updates. What if a device is infected with a virus or spyware, then what happens? The licensee and blackberry should work together, but apparently that's not happening here. Extremely unprofessional and greedy at the same time. This is why Indonesia is the way it is.
If consumers are not willing to pay the cost of monthly updates, then are they better off with quarterly, or no product at all? Businesses aren't charities.

They're waffling on major updates for the Priv and DTEKs, let alone this licensed device only sold in one country and updated every time the Cubs win the World Series. Don't expect much more from it.

Monthly updates are supposed to be free anyway and these updates come directly from Google not from Blackberry. Blackberry only packages into their rom and that's not hard to do. If You're expect consumers to pay for monthly updates that you might as well not even release any products. Let me ask you something, does Apple or Google pixel expect you to pay for their monthly update? Of course not, because it's supposed to be for free!
Consumers pay for the updates in the cost of the device. It doesn't happen for free.

BlackBerry does a lot more work than you think with the updates - there is far more to the patches than AOSP tweaks.

And this is the exact reason why Android and blackberry get a bad rep, because their devices never get updated and what's worse, the security patches are not even up to date. You give viruses and spyware on your phone, they tell you good luck. Yeah I see why people are still going for iPhones and Samsung Galaxies.
    Never get updated?

Blackberry Aurora is a great device so it beats my head as to why puti Mara is abandoning this device or not updating the device as often as it should. If you make such a great device and you don't update it every month then it becomes a useless device.
To keep the price down to make the device accessible to more people in that market.

That's a poor excuse, this is a high-end device tell me if anything they should expand this Market to other countries like Singapore.
If you were CEO of PT BB Merah Putih, you would have raised the price by $25 or so to get monthly updates. Check.

I would have provided free monthly updates to make sure none of my customers gets infected with any spyware or any kind of rootkit viruses. Customer satisfaction is number one. Obviously Puti mera does not care about its customers, like yourself.
Nothing is free. It costs money. These companies are not charities. More services = more money. Period.

Why do you think BlackBerry Android devices in the other markets are so much more expensive?

They don't understand what customer satisfaction is all about. No customer satisfaction means no business and no business means no profit for you. You don't know how to run a business.
So, selling phones at breakeven or a loss will improve profits?

Seriously dude, you don't care about people, you only care about the money. Wrong way to live your life, because you will regret it one day.
Are we not talking about a for-profit business? You're the one who just claimed I don't know how to run one.

And what about all of its shareholders that are depending on earnings for their retirement?

Where are these numbers and price of device being tied to security patches coming from? I'm not saying its not the case, just wondering.
And isn't BlackBerry's license agreement a set amount per device? Doesn't really matter what the licencee sells the device for does it?

BlackBerry is being paid by the licencee somehow - either at the point of sale of the device, or a fee per update. Either way, the more patches/servicing, the higher the cost that the licencee would have to pass on to its customers. There's only one pocket.

Possible but that's pure conjecture really. Until if ever BlackBerry discloses how these license deals are set up, nobody can say one way or the other how it all works.
As for the concern some people are showing, yes I can see how a software company that touts its security and gartner rating may want to patch up any potential issues that could cause its software to be hacked. Yet they don't seem to be doing that.

Clearly something is different about the Aurora and the deal with PT BB Merah Putih.

Either they made a deal that involves less updates for less money, or BlackBerry is supposed to provide monthly updates and is in breach of contract. No one seems upset, and I see no pending lawsuits, so I bet on the former.
