You are arguing with people who think that "licensing" equals "end of responsibility".

    It does not... of course!
Actually BlackBerry is 100%, irrefutably, and completely responsible - to the three entities it has a contractual relationship with (its three licencees).

Are there honestly people who don't understand what a licensing deal is?

If I buy a Lego set for my kid that has a Disney character in it, licensed by Lego from Disney and sold by Target, and it's defective, I can't call Disney to get it replaced or refunded.

I can go to Target (within the return period) or Lego customer support. I have no agreement with Disney, who neither made not sold the phone!

Disney is only responsible to Lego. Lego is responsible to Disney, Target, and me. Target is responsible to Lego and me.

This is business and contracts 101.

Yes typically licencing works that way but in this case it is a little more complicated as BlackBerry still control the software that the device requires to operate. The Disney Lego doesn't require anything after its sold. With that said, Yes you are correct that people still can't go directly to BlackBerry for support especially hardware related support.

Agree that the terms are different than my simpler example, but the relationships are the same.

So, the DTEK application update which just dropped has a Security Patch Level field, second in the list and explicitly showing the date. Not sure how this relates to the calculation of the overall level, but it might warrant a better update cycle for the Aurora.
