To improve the speed of the Hub could they not just have the app always open in the background but not show up in the multitask bar when the multitask button is selected? This would essentially eliminate the 1-2 second loading time when the hub icon is selected, I suspect it wouldn't have too much effect on ram, battery, or general speed.

    Cheers.

They could do that. But there are probably people who only use the Hub sporadically so it would basically be 50-100 MB of RAM wasted constantly for those people.

Try placing a Hub widget on one of your Homescreens. The widget doesn't seem to have any delay.

The Hub is already running in the background all the time. And I don't experience 1-2 second delay. It opens up instantly each time.

Have an option in the settings to turn it off. Boom done.

There are some cold open (when you've closed it from recent apps screen) launch speed improvements in development currently, but not like what you're calling out. This is really something that should 'just work' as best as it can within the bounds of the system.
