Saw this article. It indicates that TCL was creating apps (pre-installed and downloadable via Google) that collected a lot of user data from the phones they manufactured. In some cases their apps were attempting to sign up users without their permission to paid services.

Does this impact the BlackBerry Mobile devices? Anyone able to verify the claims in the article?

I have been waiting /saving up to upgrade to a Key2, but after reading this, I think I may not given the questionable credibility/ethics of TCL's app development practices.

Yeah, it's one app, and not even installed on BlackBerry phones.

And, this is, maybe, the 4th or 5th post about this today.

Not at this time. I monitor the connctions on my devices and while the Files app does have network permissions, I've never seen it make a single connection to any server.

However, the Dual Services App which was added to the Key2LE and Key2 late last year does contact Facebook Social Graph with out user interaction. If a user is actually using the service to "clone" an app, then it contacts the app's provider LBE Tech, Facebook, and Google.

Thanks. I actually use Dark Sky, but I had the BlackBerry Weather app installed as a backup. Uninstalled it now.
