All: not sure where to post this question, but here goes.
Suppose I receive a picture or a video either in a text app or an email app. Is there an advantage to saving to the phone vs leaving the file in the text or email app?

*Does it matter which app we are talking about?

*I have always assumed that its better performance wise for the phone to not "clog up" any particular app with media files which can be stored on a memory card.

*I typically save off to a micro SD card (Android), while favorite spouse leaves them in the app (on iOS).

Photo / gallery apps all access the standard local file structure where pics are usually kept. DCIM, Pictures, etc
Difference between in message or saving to the common filesystem comes down to privacy, ease of access from other apps for sharing, and personal preference.
