I've been lurking in this thread and I think I'm gonna give this a shot. I'll try it with my KEYone Bronze Edition to see how it goes.

Just to clarify (and sorry if this has already been addressed in the thread), pictures that I take will not get synced to my Google Photos account right? Is there a way to sync them without Google Services short of manually transferring files from the SD card?
Correct. In fact, without google play services, the Photos app will no longer display any options for cloud sync or account login, which is nice actually. Keeps the appearance clean. That said, the photos app will still connect to google to upload analytics unless you block it with a firewall app like Netgaurd.

I manually transfer my photos. Something you could try if you want to keep uploading photos to your google cloud is to login via the website and try and upload them that way... I'm not sure, never tried it.

    Cheers

The Yalp store appears to be gone. Anyone using Aurora Store? Or something else?
BTW thanks Mucho to chetmanley for a most useful thread!

The "old" Yalp no longer works but the newer Yalp (fork) does. So does Aurora (works well on android devices).

Thanks for the Aurora vote. I'd downloaded Yalp and uninstalled when it didn't work & same w Yalp fork. Aurora is working.

Try F-Droid (in fact download the F-Droid store app) for non-google stuff. How about https://f-droid.org/en/packages/se.e...n.findmyphone/ . There may be others there, not sure.

    maybe https://f-droid.org/en/packages/ru.seva.finder/

I've found that Yalp can only find apps if you know the precise apk name. ie com.bbm.enterprise and search using that. If you search with the common app name, it wont work anymore.

I have both Yalp v.45 legacy and Aurora installed, when one stops working, I try the other. I've found more success with Yalp recently, minus that annoying search issue.

I'll try that Yalp fork now also.

Yalp fork's search is much better in that it actually works.

Any new work-arounds for paid apps?

A useful app, like any useful tool is definitely worth paying for. I'll gladly donate to devs of free apps and pay for good add-free apps. I don't want to go through GooPlayStor though but since that is the only place many can be paid for that's what I'd like to work around. Would using a Goo giftcard be able to do this?

And one other question: do the notifications that GooPlaySvc must be enabled for an app to work ever stop? Everything has been working with all goo uninstalled or disabled but notifications continue.

You can stop this notification from displaying permanently by going into settings -> apps and notifications -> and turning off the google play services notification.

You can also do this by pulling down the notification shade when this pops up, sliding the google play notification left just enough to expose the settings cog which will bring you directly to the notification settings for that app.

I don't have special access in my gear https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...086419069d.jpg
    Hit settings gear coggle.
On the search line type "Spec"
You do not need to type out all of "special access".
Then just hit what you see labelled as "special access" .
